idk about other afab peoples but whenever I had my period even if I didn't have a tampon in I never had an issue with bathing, swimming in pools, swimming in the ocean, jaccuzis ect. I was told when I was younger that when you enter the water it's like a vacuum seal lmao so unless you actively try to put something in there/ push something out while ur in the water nothing is naturally making it's way out. I went to an all girls school too and we all still went in the water even if we were on with and without tampons. never had any accidents. Obviously if you already had blood on you (as in on the outside) when you get in the water there may be a cloud but nothing new is exiting

I relate with austin so hard on this. Even being a girl, I had no idea about any and all period products and cuz everyone used pads around me, I thought the 'tampons' most women refer to on the net are just a type of pad. There is just way too less info about these things in public space and when you are deep in the community, you are too afraid to be seen as a fool to ask. I was already so sure in my definition of a tampon that I never thought of googling it lol.

People have so many hang ups about such normal regular things… FYI, some people will experience worse pain from using tampons instead of pads, but in my limited experience it seems a lot of ladies feel like pads are gross… I took me 20 years to get my wife to stop using tampons.

@@swayback7375 I think the bigger frustration with pads than being gross is how limiting and physically uncomfortable they are to use. It sucks that it sounds like your wife got pain from using tampons, so pads were physically the better option. For myself and many other woman who don’t feel that pain, tampons allow you to run, play sports, and go about your day relatively normally (there’s many ways they can get uncomfortable so it’s not 100% home free). In comparison, pads felt like I was free bleeding and one bad movement away from getting blood on my jeans. Luckily I don’t get periods regularly anymore after being on birth control (iud for 7 years, just swapped for the arm implant this year).

the article is kinda right about the free bleeding thing tho, the water pressure underwater stops the blood from 'leaking' out as much. so there's not as big of a difference to free bleeding vs wearing a tampon in the pool as one would think (tho its too terrifying to try in practice so someone else can test that out)
