My wife had a willow she loved dearly, I lost her to cancer a few months ago. I generally have a green thumb so I took several cuttings from her tree to root and give to our children. Wish me luck brother. And I did subscribe to your channel.

Great tutorial. I just started some dragon willow cuttings two weeks ago. I started them in 6 inch trays with good drainage. I really wish I had started them in atleast 10 inch trays but hopefully they will thrive for a year or so. I layered with bonsai granule on bottom then money tree premium blend and another layer of bonsai granule. Its a pretty interesting hobby to say the least. I'm in NC and things grow pretty good here. I also use forest moss on top and trying to stick with bottle water only and since you mentioned it I'm glad I did. You're subbed dude.

So, glad that you did a willow this time. I'm living in "Salix-land" lately. I got a double trunk Dwarf Purple Willow that I was successful in splitting into two little trees. I think I'm going to stick with these for a while before I "branch" out. haha. They're so easy and fun to learn on. My Lilac died.

OOh a Dwarf Purple Willow sounds cool! I'm going to do some googling on that one. Sorry to hear about your lilac :(

4:25 oh,now I understand why my moss turned brown after I put it in the pots.I'm using tap water to water my trees and yeah, it's not easy to collect rainwater while living in an urban area. 😏💡

I would use bottled water. You can buy it at the dollar stores fairly inexpensively. It would also solve your moss problem at the same time!

Yeah I thought about that but I just have so many darn trees I'd be going through2 or 3 cases of water a day. It's always funny to me how much abuse these trees can take sometimes. Chop them in half, bare root them, cut their limbs off 3 times a year. But OMG tap water! lol

@@BonsaiBoise MIKE....you can by it by the gallon and some stores sell it in 5 gallon containers. Some also sell quantities as high as you would like. You could even check into a deliverie service. Worth checking out at least. I have well water so don't have that problem, but a friend has water delivered for a relatively small monthly payment.

New to Bonsai, but absolutely hooked! Being a fellow Boisieite, I have been thinking about what I can do outside and year around. My first thought was a rocky mountain juniper. I have them showing up once in a while, and I've actually let one grow out, it's huge now lol. My second thought was willow trees, my mom has a willow tree that has gotten too big, has dead parts, and is near the house that needs to be taken down. I told her to make some cuttings from it. I was thinking about doing an outside bonsai area. Do you have any suggestions on what plants to try?
@BonsaiBoise Жыл бұрын
I do actually! I'm fact, if you're here in town you're in luck because I'm moving this week and need to purge some of my little starters. Want some?

@@BonsaiBoise that would be great!

If you want to shoot me an email at bonsaiboise@gmail.com I'll give you the details. They're not anything too grand, just starters for the most part. But a handful of species to play around with.

Most moss is supposed to be green especially if it’s moist enough so it’s more of an indication it’s staying adequately watered…

Can you use metal wire to redirect branches for these?
@BonsaiBoise3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can. I usually don't though just because I forget about him sometimes and then they start cutting into the branches. Especially on fast growers like willows.
