ITO is not just an actor. The upper class of samurai during the Sengoku period also honed their artistic skills, such as tea ceremony, Noh theater, and writing poetry. They were also useful for honing the skills necessary for a military commander, such as strategy, tactics, philosophy, and acting.

Fuji-sama simps: ASSEMBLE! Let us all sip some tea. 😆😆😆

That was not a compliment about the cup. It was a backhanded insult to how she perceived it as cheap. Japanese culture is very non-confrontational. Instead, when they insult, they are super passive-aggressive. I imagine it was even more so back then, and then again with the upper class.

That tea house scene was EPIC. Everything was subtext. it starts with Mariko did warn Blackthorne not to make a scene. 1. First she said that “this is a private place where it can be dark if you wish it”. As if to say “I know whats going on". 2. Then Kiku mentions to his aprentice how you notice something when its gone. Translation “this must end but this is a blank space i am creating for you” 3. Then, after observing his guests says “a woman cannot look away when someone else suffers”, which subtly hints at her deducing what's going on between Mariko-sama and Blackthorne. But also hunting they can have a moment one last time. 4.Then comes the part where Kiku sits behind Mariko while she behind to explain the willow world. Where she is saying the words but Anjin can only see Mariko. Mariko, on her part, started bu translating for Kiku dono, saying “she says” etc; but gets all caught up and started translating as if she herself was saying it. And you can see she was getting into it to, so much that she had to catch herself and refrain from translating the last line... because if she did, her and Anjin were just about ready to pounce on each other 5. And to cap it all off, Kiku-dono asks Mariko were to join them; and we know she knows how to give a live performance from episode 1. It was all well staged. So well staged that, thankfully, they did not add the actual pillowing scene which would have cheapened the whole thing. Then the walk the morning after was a highly ritualized public display that was meant to dispell any rumors, so whether or not something actually happened in the previous evening doesn't matter anymore. Toranaga got what he wanted out of that one. And since there's a lady with you, I'm sure she knows how much s3xually charged that situation was, in an er0tic novel kind of way.... it was a mental/spiritual pillowing.

If the Taiko's wife nor all the consort he ever had never got pregnant, that says two things either his impotent or all the women were being drugged to not get pregnant. And how would Ochiba get back on top since she was the daughter of the ruler? Have the new ruler's baby. But if he is impotent who else could have fathered the boy? Someone who currently cares so much for the boy and is willing to protect him at all cost. Torunaga maybe? Probably tha real reason she wants to off him, is because if the truth comes out that the heir is not the heir, then she loses her power once again.

The Noh theater is a part of Japan’s culture. It is not “weird” as you described. Just because you don’t understand the meanings behind traditions, it doesn’t make it “weird.”

So, I assume the Taiko's heir isn't actually his child?
@zanechi7 ай бұрын
Yes. For european kingdoms and your family maybe it was the practice. But for Japanese in Edo Time it would be treason. You didn't understand the show. It shows you what Ochiba went through to conceive a child. If there was an easy way as yours, fuck anybody else, what was the pain for?

"He doesn't like you, unfortunately." Other way around, notice Mariko is trash-talking his clan from the very beginning. This episode reveals their marriage problems likely started with her. He still shouldn't have beaten her but we see here that she did cast the first stone.

I think were just led to believe that he beats her regularly, but i believe it only happened that one night due to the sake and because of John and also because shes alwys asking him if she can kill herself. He always refuses her request because he loves her and wants her to live. But she never thought of him on the same level.
