That said there were 3 out of 15 with dented front panels from where the handles pushed in. I know I said the handles sucked last time, but really it comes down to they need to add just another inch of foam on the front side only. There just isn't enough padding there if they are not going to be shipped on a pallet because we know "this end up" is just not going to happen lol.

Interesting results. I may have to isolate my EG4 lifepower V2 and test it. This is likely just the BMS throttling the capacity on the EG4. I doubt it’s the cells themselves. The build quality is top notch.

Interesting observation on the soc cutoff, I never would have picked up on it. That makes no sense though why they would program these to cutoff based on soc. Even if the BMS is is learning the full capacity as the battery ages, I still feel that's not accurate enough control vs voltage. Unless it's being used as a form of redundancy maybe. Also, I've come to strongly dislike those rigid humpless busbars, especially if they're used in a pack that's just taped or PET-strapped together.

@@MyCabinLifeyou *could*, but that wouldnt be as thick of an insulator. honestly why take the risk? just put it on the correct way that provides the most separation. that much potential energy, you want to eliminate any chance of shorting or arcing. Tabless cell construction has shown to not only increase capacity but also drop manufacturing costs because they're simpler to make. They're in a bunch of power tools now and the micromobility/esk8 enthusiasts are building packs with the cells that are cutting weight while keeping power the same or better. Being large storage enthusiasts, I think our reward is going to be an immediate 30% increase in capacity without increasing volume or weight footprints. I hope we get to see some rack battery packs with these cells in them soon.

Will I would like to see you do some safety videos and possibly a video on using a digital multi meter and the safety procedures while using it. Those server rack batteries store enough energy to cause a violent explosion if shorted out. As a retired elevator tech with 40 years working with electricity . I was required to work on equipment that had more than one live circuit. Capacitor banks that stored lots of power. Supply line power of up to 480V. Have seen several times an accidental short causing molten metal to fly thru the air. That is some dangerous stuff you are doing, and many of your audience will have knowledge from professional to total lack of proper safety procedures working with stored energy.

The new EG4 is built by a different company. The same company who builds the premium EG4. The are likely protecting the cells for long life by limiting how much capacity you can use. Remember with experience comes revision. Lots of rack batteries that are only 3-5 years old are failing. Because of a weak cell usually. It is all in understanding the warranty. As you said already the BMS is limiting the cells capacity on both batteries.
@Dragonfiregum8 күн бұрын
I don't buy products for the warranty , i buy them to work. When dealing in spans of 5,10,15,20,25 years the companies are often gone in this world now. Knowing a product is going to last is key. If people know the product is failing in 3-5 years even within warranty , it's a big put off.

To have the best results, you should really charge every single cell to 3.65v before starting the capacity test. Those balancers that come with these batteries are mostly passive balancers and if one or more cells has drifted away too much, the balancers cannot correct it anymore (unless you let it balance for 5 weeks). So my advice: charge the battery to 100%, then open the lid and check each cell voltage. If some are not at 3.65, charge them manually with a dc power supply until all cells are 3.65v.
@WillProwse7 күн бұрын

Wow - this is interesting - very well done! I am wondering, and this is just a guess, if there is an underlying issue in that the suppliers of the cells possibly make them just a little bit less powerful, maybe just 0.1-0.2 ah per cell. This would add up to what you are observing.

The general consensus on the forum is that the coulomb counter on a BMS isn't accurate. Certainly not as accurate as say a Victron Shunt, _especially_ at low current. This may be urban legend but it's been repeated on the forum so much that it's considered to be true. With that in mind, if the capacity test was run using a very low current, is it possible that it would bypass the coulomb counting (and limit) by the Eco-Worth BMS and that would allow you to come closer to the 110 Ah of capacity? Personally, that doesn't sound like a great use of time as it's going to take quite a while to run the test. For most buyers of a battery like this, if they installed the Eco-Worthy battery without doing any capacity test and making no attempt to balance the cells, I'm not sure they would even notice that it had less than the rated capacity. Maybe that's what Eco-Worthy is counting on? (Glad you're keeping the vendors honest Will!) Given the price, it's still a good deal.
@WillProwse8 күн бұрын
Hey great points and that's why I tested at 3/5/20/60 amps. Technically possibly but would take weeks to charge it slowly and it would reset the counter once you hit ovd.

prices of the batteries go down for the last couple for decades. there is no reason it should stop now.
@traveling.down.the.road568 күн бұрын
@@artdre1881 Tariffs are a huge reason for why the prices are going to go up in the future. With all of the growing competition from new battery manufacturers, the profit margins are bound to be small, so they can’t absorb the cost of new tariffs and keep the battery prices where they are now, so as soon as any new tariffs are added, the prices will have to be increased. I’m glad that my current approximate 19kwh is all that I need for now, and I won’t need to buy any more batteries for a long while, and hopefully by the time I need more, any tariffs will be gone.

The 314Ah Eve MB31 cells and all other 300Ah cells are much cheaper per kWh capacity anyway. So who needs LiFePo4 storage with the small 100Ah cells in these days - apart from those with space problems, of course? 🤷🏼♂️ That's why I only use the large 16s LiFePo4 blocks with 300Ah cells in our Victron home island system with wall box, 2 split air conditioners and all the other stuff. What am I missing? I can buy 4- 100 ah 14.6 volt batteries and connect them in series to equal one of these batteries capacity wise. Those 4 batteries can be less than half the cost of 1 of these rack batteries! Unless your flush with cash or limited on space I don't understand why people buy these.🤷♂️

Where are the sodium chemistry batteries we all heard would be widely available now? Especially 48v 100Ah models?

I am looking to put together a solar power system, but I would like to find out if all of the components have to come from the same manufacturer, or does that not matter??
