The fact that they started with 11 people and the boat had 9 seats is kind of horrifying if you think about it.

It actually continues throughout the movie. For example, in the TV room there were just enough lab coats for Mike Teevee, Wonka, Charlie, Grandpa Joe, and Mike’s mother

Let’s face facts: Augustus Gloop was not going to leave the chocolate room until it was as bare as the tv room. Besides he would have tackled the Oompa Loompahs from shrinking that huge candy bar.

@@TheEmpressRebornyou can see it in Charlie/Grandpa Joe and the other parents and their “kids.” Gene surprised them with this, and freaked them out so badly that the actors were visibly “protecting” the kids that weren’t even theirs 😂 Nobody ever did sudden explosive freak-outs like Gene. What an amazing actor. I miss him intensely.

@Sgtspork
@Sgtspork 6 жыл бұрын
well, that's not how movies are shot... so the close up of Gene isn't at the same time as the reactions of the kids and probably not even on the same day or even with them on the lot... so that's an easily provable fallacy... but I'm sure it has a bit of a kernel of a truth.. perhaps that it was an improvisation on Wilder's part but the rest, that it frightened the kids and that's their true reaction, is pure embellishment, a great story, but factually false due to the mechanics of how movies are actually made...
@DivineXPotato
@DivineXPotato 6 жыл бұрын
SGT SPORK look into it, around half of this movie is improvised by gene wilder and most of the script was kept secret to all the actors except gene a lot of their reactions are their genuine reactions, i forget who but one of them had actually thought gene got to deep into his role and was going insane during the boat ride another well known example is the start where he is limping and then does a summer salt

When filming the scary tunnel scene, the actor's reactions in the film was genuine and they weren't acting when Wonka starts singing and has his screaming rant which was unscripted and the cast especially Peter Ostrum and Jack Albertston were terrified and had thought Gene Wilder had gone into a psychotic meltdown. The film uses various footage from other unknown theatrical films for the boat scene as tunnel images, including a spider, a giant centipede crawling on a man's face, a human eyeball, a chicken's head cut off by an ax, a chameleon eating a bug, and Wonka's rival Mr. Slugworth. Denise Nickerson - who played Violet Beauregarde - didn't want to do the nose-picking bit; she had a crush on Peter Ostrum - who played Charlie Bucket - and didn't want to embarrass herself.

I've been thinking... You know what we need? I'll tell you... We need... a scary tunnel. Right over there. Not a candy-making tunnel, just a scary tunnel. You know... something that'll really freak people out when they go through it. Like show bugs crawling on peoples' faces, and chickens getting their heads cut off, you know? They're not making candy, though, they're just getting their chickens' heads cut off. Yeah, that's an incredible idea. We need a scary tunnel.

So many nice little touches in this scene. When Mr. Wonka says he knows a worse habit than spitting, I wonder if he means picking your nose or chewing gum. Or both. Also love the double meaning with "What business are you in, Salt?" "Nuts". And "with your buoyancy sir, rest assured".

I feel like this scene perfectly sums up the human mind. A lot of the fears and restless thoughts people have are unnecessary and out of touch with reality. But, if you were to just stop, breathe and take a step back, a lot of things are actually not as bad or serious and we make it out to be. Charlie and his grandpa had a more relaxed mind and had a different experience than everyone else who was panicking.

Every actor and actress was perfect in this film-I can't imagine anyone else playing each character everyone nailed it! Gene's maniacal face when he starts shrieking always gets me cracking up🤣followed by everyone else screaming in response(most notably Mrs Teevee 🤣)

Gene Wilder should've gotten an Oscar for this movie, or at least a nomination. He was robbed!

In 1968, he was up for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in "The Producers", but he lost... to Jack Albertson who won said award for "The Subject was Roses"

Looked like she had a little panic attack at that moment. 😬 It's so fucked up, but it's absolutely brilliant acting.

My sense of humor has taken a few hits as I've gotten older, and I start laughing like a maniac when Wonka starts howling on the boat.

Roy Kinnear as Mr. Salt is so underrated in this film. That little double twke he throws Wonka at 0:45 makes me laugh every time.

Veruca's the one who says about spitting. And she's also the one who picks her nose. Denise Nickerson (Violet Beauregarde) didn't want to do the nose-picking bit. She had a crush on Peter Ostrum (Charlie Bucket) and didn't want to embarrass herself. geektyrant.com/news/25-fun-facts-about-willy-wonka-and-the-chocolate-factory

@@MissVioletB Just watched it again, and you're right. But I thought that, when I watched this one time, it was Julie (Veruca) who said that. And, like I said earlier, the site I posted said that Denise Nickerson (Violet) didn't want to do the nose-picking bit. (I thought that was what they were referring to.)
