Almark first film is void of meaning. That’s why the second was filmed. Roald dahls wife wanted the movie remake because the original movie failed to portray dahls true message of the film. Second takes the cake in my eyes for these reasons

With wonderful deathless ditties We build up the world's great cities. And out of a fabulous story We fashion an empire's glory; One man with a dream, at pleasure, Shall go forth and conquer a crown; And three with a new song's measure Can trample an empire down, We, in the ages lying In the buried past of the earth Built Nineveh with our sighing, And Babel itself with our mirth; And o'erthrew them with prophesying To the old of the new world's worth; For each age is a dream that is dying, Or one that is coming to birth.

The lines come from "The Ode" a poem from Arthur O'Shaughnessy. The poem itself is driven by the hope of inspiration. Artists who build upon the future from their dreams and fantasy worlds. In other words don't let anyone tell you something doesn't exist if you wish it. If you can dream it you can achieve it. Its a life lesson more than anything.

I take it as a Wonka putting the bratty little girl in her place. I think in the context of the scene it's actually a very stern meaning. He's not trying to inspire her but remind her that he has created his own world and scolding her for her childish dismissal of what she had no part in making. The poem itself talks about the power of artists to topple empires with their creations by lighting in the hearts of new generations the inspiration to create their own future.

@sockthustra8749
@sockthustra8749 11 ай бұрын
I love this line because it perfectly sums up what the essence of what Willy Wonka is all about. Veruca, in this scene, is suggesting that the idea of tasting a Snozberry is ridiculous because, to her, they don't and can't exist. Wonka counters this by essentially telling her that whether something is "real" or not isn't simply decided by whether people know about it and accept it as "real". Something doesn't necessarily need to exist in the current moment in order for you to experience it just as vividly as any other "real" thing.

Seeing this clip out of context makes me appreciate how great the sound design was in this movie. It's crazy how the footsteps at the start are such a normal sound, but hearing them instantly brings back good memories of this movie. They're just a bit exaggerated, like something from an old radio show, and it pulls me into the scene. It's impressive that a foley artist can add such atmosphere with such mundane sounds--no music or weird sound effects needed.

This is quote is so beautiful to me, it's tear-wrenching. Of course, that's because I'm interpreting it within the context of my thus far disappointing life, and it struck me with joyous relief. This quote fundamentally means: "We can."

You silly goose, it’s not meant to directly explain. “We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams,” is a direct quote from Arthur O’Shaughnessy’s 1873 poem “Ode.” The poem celebrates the role of artists and dreamers as those who shape the world through imagination and creativity. By using this line in response to Veruca Salt’s practical question about “Snozzberries,” Wonka avoids literal explanations and instead emphasizes his whimsical world, where literal answers often matter less than embracing wonder and dreams.

@@Sean-qo9yu you sillier goose, the commenter you're responding to is quoting a line from American Dad said in response to the "We are the Music Makers..." line in a bit, not voicing their opinion on the line itself. Perhaps they should've used quotations

Neither was Violet. She was a mostly alright kid who had her awesome moment in shutting up Veruca and had no real bad traits besides a talkative mouth, but it was just her gum chewing competitiveness that alas got the better of her. However, given good manners and quitting gum, she will indeed go far as a person and that's saying something.

Def. of Snozzberrys : For a long time it was assumed that it was some kind of fruit, or at least a nonsense word being used to represent a fruit, because that was the context is was used in in the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ("The snozzberries taste like snozzberries!"). Then, in 1979, people found out what it really meant when the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory wrote an adult novel that used the word in its proper context. Turns out, it's a penis

I have never ever watched the movie or the scene. But I always knew the line and how he said it even before I came here to see it with my eyes. I knew the deep meaning behind it. Existentialism is here. Everywhere. We are we and we matter. Since we are the music makers. and we are dreamers of dreams..
