As someone from the Global South i have no idea what Zelensky is talking about in regards to Kursk. Can anyone help me understand. What Ukraine failed to learn about Russia is that in all wars they have traded their land in exchange for time. It happened when Sweden attacked in the 1700's, when Napoleon attacked in the 1800's and when Hitler did the same in 1941. The Russians burnt down their houses, crops and farms while retreating with Napoleon they even burnt Moscow to the ground. The idea that they would panic and stop everything because of a few potato fields in Kursk was delusional from the very beginning.

According to the Russian guy himself - the Ukrainian did not have a knife of his own, the knife changed hands twice (it was in the possession of the Ukrainian soldier for a while and he cut the Russian around the ear and hands). At the end the Ukrainian blew himself up with a grenade to not suffer as he got two deep cuts on his neck, according to the Russian soldier, who says that he then shot the body as well. He also says it is not the first time he had to engage in hand-to-hand combat (apparently it happens a lot more than people thought) and the previous time was in May for him, where he also suffered several injuries, one gunshot and multiple shrapnel injuries. He is due to return to Ukraine on January 10th and signed up so his eldest son, out of 5 kids, would not be drafted (son will turn 18 this year). The full fight was 2 on 2. The Ukrainians killed the first Russian, the knife guy shot a Ukrainian (presumed KIA), leaving them one on one. He also says he is traumatized by it and doesnt like remembering or talking about it, saying that first and foremost we have to remain human and have dignity. Which is why both of them let go in the end and said goodbyes.

Correction, ukranian had a grenade on him, it wasn't ukranian whos blew himlself, Yakut pulled out the pin. You can even hear ukranian saying "Don't do it" "Ne nado" right before explosion
@rolandlee6898Сағат бұрын
@@Hollo0w I dont think so. There is drone footage of it. The Russian left him for quite a bit and went back inside the building and was collecting his gear and the Ukrainian blew up like 30 seconds after he Russian dude left the Ukrainian. When he said "ne nado" its after he was cut in the neck, to stop fighting, knowing he lost and he asked the Russian to let him die in peace. The last thing they said to each other was "Goodbye" from both sides. In the interview too, the Russian doesnt say he put the grenade, the grenade was the Ukrainian's and he killed himself to not suffer in pain while slowly bleeding to death. Its not the first time we have seen mortally wounded soldiers on both sides blowing themselves up with grenades.

We are used to a 'clean' version of war, where weapons hit over large distances and their immediate effect is not visible. This clean version is the reason why so many people cheers about killing other human beings or boasting how deadly such and such weapon system is. Those people are to far removed from the miserable ways people are killed and die. Every staunch supporter of either side in a conflict should watch the outcome of this support on a personal level. I am no pacifist, but I can't support either side in this war. It is not worth all this death and destruction just to decide which successor to the Kievan Rus governs this lands. US Citizen with US veterans in my family. IMO, the reality of war heading into the Trump Administration is as follows: There was a time when Russia actually asked to join NATO but was rejected because what would be the use of NATO without making someone an enemy? This war is hopelessly futile for Ukraine when being outmanned and outgunned by Russia with 3x the weapons production. Even if NATO were to find the money and increase weapons production then it is still futile because Ukraine is outmanned in trained combat forces. And if NATO puts boots on the ground we are looking at some BRICS nations joining the war or a catastrophic nuclear WWIII. This war must stop sooner rather than later or Ukrainians will find themselves in a much worse bargaining position in the future. The peaceful intent of Donald Trump without belated neocon influence is really our only hope but he must first accept the Istanbul agreements plus all annexed Oblasts as part of the deal, or Russia will most likely keep moving west to the Dnieper river as a natural fortification before considering Ukraine in NATO. NATO and Ukraine are in denial of the realities on the ground in favor of motives by NATO ranging from ideological political differences like the mistake in Vietnam, to mineral deposit grabs, to military industrial complex profiteering, to weakening Russia's global influence in countries such as Africa and Syria while inhumanely using Ukraine in a proxy war. Then stating what comes out of Russia is propaganda when it is mostly coming from the west when embellishing on occasional tactical success by Ukraine while rarely reporting on the unusual amount of desertions or the successful strategic advances by Russia. For example, saying there is a stalemate or Russia is only taking farms and empty fields is in denial of what was really going on when Ukraine was holding Avdiivka before 2024 and continuously lobbing artillery onto the civilian population in Donetsk. The foregoing resulted in Russia gliding in FABs on Avdiivka then sending wave after wave of small groups of soldiers in a frontal assault into Avdiivka before finally capturing it in January 2024. This was followed by Russia refining their tactics in other areas when delaying frontal assaults by first out flanking towns with operational encirclement to cut off supply routes on the back side to prevent reinforcements and force a retreat before sending wave after wave of soldiers to capture towns. Since Ukraine does not have enough manpower to hold multiple towns and its flanks, by the end of 2024 Russia was capturing towns at a rate of more than one per day. At the same time Ukraine had used their best troops to capture the undefended forested land in Kursk when gambling on Russia relocating troops from the eastern front to Kursk. Russia however decided to take Kursk back later by simply moving in some reserves to stop the offensive and then struck a deal with Korea to help retake Kursk. This alleged bargaining chip by Ukraine turned into losing more than 50% of what was captured in Kursk and will only get worse if Ukraine is pushed back to their border before Trump takes office. Moreover … 1. The Ukraine-Russia war started because NATO countries renounced the previously agreed upon 2015 Minsk II agreements and refusal to commit to Ukranian neutrality which had been maintaining peace among diversified cultures in Ukraine ever since Ukraine became Independent. Dates conflicting tensions escalated: A. 2008, Bucharest Summit, NATO agreed that Ukraine and Georgia will become members of NATO. B. 2014, Maidan Square, NATO members extraneously interfering and meddling in domestic affairs when involved in the civil unrest and uprising followed by coup to overthrow Ukraine's elected and neutral government. This was followed by Kyiv becoming hostile to their own citizens in Eastern Ukraine simply because of their Russian culture. If the content in this ‘B’ paragraph did not happen then Russia would not have annexed Crimea or any other Ukraine Oblast. C. 2022, Two months after the war started Boris Johnson stepped in on behalf of some NATO members to use an outmanned and outgunned Ukraine as a proxy and misled them with false hope of failed sanctions and wonder weapons (now being electronically jammed by Russia) into bailing on a peace treaty previously initialed by Ukraine in Istanbul. 2. It was again time to negotiate peace after Russia dug their lengthy fortifications along the eastern front, not enact a decree prohibiting negotiations. It is now more than half of NATO member countries and Ukraine that doesn't want to negotiate peace because Ukraine has not lifted their decree on not allowing negotiations with Russia. 3. After nearly three years of war with Ukraine getting pummeled and NATO using illegitimate fear to say Russia wants more than to support friendly relations between eastern Ukraine and Russia, the only additions Russia wants after the Instanbul agreements are the four annexed Oblasts which are already 75% captured, and at the current pace will be captured in 2025. These annexes protect the Russian speaking people in Eastern Ukraine, provide a land bridge to supply essentials to Crimea, and prevent a river channel from being dammed as was done soon after Crimea was annexed. If Ukraine keeps attacking deep into Russia I wouldn’t be surprised if Starlink is partially disabled over Ukraine to disrupt drone communications, and/or Russia gives notice before bombing communication centers in Kyiv with multiple Oreshnik missiles. If the foregoing is not enough to bring the parties to the negotiating table Russia may annex more Oblasts east of the Dnieper and/or captures Odessa as a trade route to Transnistria while leaving Ukraine with a land locked stub state.

You got a lot right but the basic wrong. Europeans, including Americans now, has never seen Russians as their equal. Despite Russians being a cultured nation. Plus they are jealous of the resources that Russia has which they'd like to get their hands on. That's the colonialist mentality of Europeans. They've been doing it in Africa and Asia for centuries. NATO is just their way of threatening Russia.

Only one country recognises the puppet Russian republics, North Korea. If Ukraine is forced to accept the loss no country will recognise them They will remain illegally occupied Ukrainian territory. Willy you don’t fully understand the conflict because you still view this war as Ukraine fighting for their sovereignty and a moral right to support them. But you either didn’t figure out or choose to report that over a year before the war started during covid lockdowns, Zelensky passed a law that legalizes their government to sell land to foreign entities such as BlackRock. This war then starts and will go two ways, Ukraine loses their sovereignty to Russia or to BlackRock or both. Ukrainians are dying for Nato aggression against Russia and losing sovereignty regardless. The Ukrainian government is a full on US vassal state because the US are paying for the Ukrainian government to literally exist. Don’t act like you want less people to die in this war while being in favor of mobilizing young 18 year olds, both men and women, rather than advocating for a full on Ukrainian surrender. This war is not actually about them, Ukrainians are being used and sacrificed by the US, and these things are possible when the governments are corrupted and moving in a facist/authoritarian direction and not actually democracies. Democracy as a principle has been weaponized rather than actually implemented in reality.

Having visited Russia a number of times recently, travelling to various locations across it I believe you could not be more wrong about the subject of traditional values being ‘painted’ in some way by the Russian authorities, inferring that an adherence to traditional values is some kind of tactic against the West. In my experience and by my observation adherence to traditional values in Russia, and indeed across the vast preponderance of east European states simply reflects strong and culturally very deep dependence upon known positives within their societies and an aversion to factors which they know would corrode the values underpinning those known positive factors. The nations we are talking about have a long history of being on the edge regarding sustainability, i.e. they have been poor or at least relatively poor by comparison with nations of the West. They know that solidarity among their communities, with as many as possibly among them working constantly together has been all that has kept them from disaster. They therefore have never had the luxury of an ‘anything goes’ attitude to lifestyles. They had to pull together with a great deal of unanimity to pull through. Asking (or demanding) that they now liberalise and open this Pandora’s Box is not going to be met with anything like approval. These nations, including Russia, do not ban being different, homosexuality for instance is not banned. But opening themselves up to what they can see occurring in the West, to an anarchy of so-called freedom they know instinctively can only harm the general cohesion and effectiveness of their societies in the face of a more precarious situation than the somewhat insulated economic luxuries of the West. Devotion to the way all previous ancestors lived is not a tactic, it is not some kind of subterfuge or faked attitude to be used as a weapon. It is a deeply heartfelt wish for continuation of a known and loved lifestyle that WORKED and that is as FAMILIAR as their own present families. To veer radically from the ways of all previous generations, of Russians, Poles, Belarusians or whoever, would be and is, anathema. And rightly so when consideration is given to the extremely bad times of the past that the values of their forebears saw them through. Putin and any Russian who is aware of what is going on socially (and now politically) in the West, knows at least one thing; they don’t want THAT. THEY will decide the way forward and they will certainly look to what worked in the past and what works for them now. This was reflected by Putin in his famous address to the great and good at the Munich Security Conference in 2007. The Russians will decide, not the elites of some other nations or group of nations. The Russians alone. And if my observations within Russia and Belarus are correct they will most definitely decide to continue living as their ancestors have, in a decidedly traditional form.

What I don't understand, is how you, or anyone else, who claims they understand this SMO (special military operation), can so casually say, "no matter what side you support"? Surely, if, as you're claiming, you do understand this, then you'd know, and you'd be in no doubt, whatsoever, who's on the side of right, and whose on the side of completely wrong? There is no in-between, you either understand this, or you don't! As you're an Aussie, I find this lack of understanding, startling, yet, not surprising. And this is why, nobody should ever try to form an opinion, on anything, without first, being 100% sure of the facts. In ever so simple terms, Russia could not be more on the side of right, even if they tried their hardest to be right, while us in the west, and Ukraine could not be any more on the side of wrong, than we are today! And, oh boy, ain't we all, soon, going to, quite justifiably, pay the ultimate price for this betrayal against all we've "supposedly" been brought up believing in?

I'm surprised how many here break the conditioning and refuse to 'stand with Ukraine', though they're often quiet about it as 'Putin bots' can be angrily confronted. Hope you and the family don't get too much grief from this 'war fever' and it's resolved soon.

When it comes to natural gas prices, many overlook a key factor: one of the main reasons gas prices haven’t skyrocketed yet is the significant drop in demand for this commodity. Take the fertilizer industry, for example-one of the largest consumers of natural gas. Since 2022, the soaring cost of gas (making up around 70% of fertilizer production costs) has forced many farmers to abandon chemical fertilizers altogether. As a result, many manufacturers have also shut down operations. This has significantly driven up the prices of agricultural goods. If the supply of natural gas continues to be this unstable, it will lead to even greater challenges with food affordability in the EU, which could provoke widespread dissatisfaction and unrest. Some might call it “radicalization,” but I’d argue it’s more about people waking up from their consumerism-induced slumber.

Hey Brisbane Bob, the Constitution does not prohibit elections under martial law. Article 83 of the Ukrainian Constitution allows for the extension of the term of office for the members of the Rada, not the term President. I do not support this war. I watched the video. There is something poignant about two men who have engaged in such a bloody and savage fight calling each other brother when one meets his end. Simultaneously you have both the callous disregard of those in charge, the politicians who failed and the fanatical vitriol vomiting from those who are comfortably seated in their own homes at their computers far away from any such harm. But far away from having to confront the reality that the guys on the other side are just like they are.
@tomo6293Күн бұрын
Willy, I will not comment on other things, but only on the gas situation. I do not know what kind of expert your colleague is, but the Yamal-Europe natural gas pipeline from Belarus via Poland to Germany has been closed since 2022, and Nord Stream 2 has not been completely destroyed. So the EU could still receive Russian gas via the pipeline bypassing Ukraine, and much more than 5% than it currently receives via Ukraine. So the question arises why the EU does not import cheaper Russian gas via pipelines while importing more expensive Russian LNG?

Russia definitely stated that it wasn't negotiating with Ukraine while the Ukrainian army is in Kursk.
@urszulavon9400Күн бұрын
Russia can not negotiate because: 1. Zelenski forced Rada to enact law criminalising - forbiding any one neciating peace. 2. Russia herself was attaked, so it is WAR. Diferent rules apply as it is no longer SMO 3. Russia considers Zelenski expired president. He cancelled elections and usurped power. Radas' term also expired. 4. As Ukrainine is only proxy in this war, Russia will only negociate with the Big Boss because only USA makes final decisions. Not NATO or Anglia.

As daunting as this video is, Ive seen worse in this war. I have several videos that were posted on Telegram....one shows a Ukrainian infantry soldier jumping out the rear door of an IFV and landing on a mine, blowing away the lower part of his leg, leaving a string of sinew and muscle dragging a booted foot. In another, two gas grenades are dropped on 2 surrendering Russians in a water filled trench.....they convulse and flay around in the water before going under, and in another, a Ukrainian soldier, one of several in the video, has 3 or so Russian prisoners laid on their stomachs, hands bound. One of the Russians, clearly pleading, has half a mag from an AK emptied into his skull, scattering bone and rain over the ground. War is ugly, regardless of who is right, who is wrong or who believes theyre justified. If politicians were exposed to the reality and brutality of a ground war, the face to face, the hand to hand, the blood, the gore, maybe theyd rethink their stupidity.
