What a great day! I was lucky enough to find myself on a boat in a small bay just south of here this past Thursday. We were out for 1.5 hours and we pulled 32 keepers! It was 74°F and there was practically no wind. Such a dream of an afternoon. We crabbed about 20 minutes after low tide and into the start of incoming but the tidal shift was a little over 3 feet so things were very calm in the water. For bait we used just plain chicken. Half was bait that had been used before (but not rotten, just a bit stinky) and the other half was fresh chicken. I pulled a few 7" or larger males up with all those other males! I would say that about 75% of them were hard shell and plenty full but some of the biggest ones I got were only about 60% full of meat. We tossed the softest shells back into the bay for next time. I have a feeling that a few weeks from now they'll be even more full of meat and the crabbing is going to be insane! Thanks for doing the testing of the Smelly Jelly! I do prefer this attractant to the other two I've used.

32 keepers in 1.5 hours!!! That's some fast crabbing right there! The Smelly jelly is really awesome! It's almost cheating some days...

Great videos! Hey did you make your crab splitter? Got any tips on how to make one?

Something I heard for a brine for the chicken is fish sauce. Never tried it though.

Great video guys! Awesome to see the both of you hammering the gauge buster crab… what about doing a 5 bait challenge.. chicken, squid, smelt, salmon/steelie, Shad or rockfish?? To see who comes out on top and/or what works best.

I crab around the Tillamook area. I do pretty good at multiple different locations. The dock crabbing has been pretty good recently. Don't give up!

A 10' pelican kayak is what I use to get out into my crabbing area. It's lightweight and wide enough to pop 2 crab cages onto. Had one trap with 12 crab so its doable in a kayak. The kayak will fit in a Ford Flex but only the driver gets to go since there is no more room for anything else, the vehicle is too tall for me to put the kayak on to the roof.

Nice video. What is the limit per person per day for recreational crabbers?
@WillyFishАй бұрын
12 male crabs. Size in Oregon is 5 3/4. Minimum size is different in Oregon, California, Washington and Alaska however.

Cheers from Vancouver BC , I just go to a butcher and get the scraps from cut chicken like the back bones with just a little meat , I never buy drum sticks or other edible parts of the chicken , And a lot of the times the butcher is just going to toss the scraps in the garbage an find they work just fine for free and if not a huge bag for a couple of dollars ,

How about trying pro-cure bloody tuna oil? Been eyeballing that for crab marinade but haven’t been able to make it happen yet. Good show, thanks for having a clean channel I can watch with my grandkids.

Since you are cleaning first, try steaming for 18 minutes instead of boiling. I think they taste better that way.

Wouldnt your results be more accurate if you recorded total number caught rather than just legal keepers? Seems to me the total crab attracted would give you more differentiation in your data.
