Most crabs come from downcurrent, following the scent trail up to.the trap that is why most come in one or two entrances. Whichever are downstream of the bait. The shiner perch in the first drop also indicate the current direction kinda like a windsock at the airport

So the current is coming from the right of the screen and the crab get wind of that and come in from the left. The perch also come from the left and it seems the fish are struggling/swimming to fight the current. I think this supports the theory of lining up pots in a vertical line with the ebb/tide flow.

Tried going snaring today. Drove out to Goat rock & the gate was closed still a really big surf. I freeze salmon carcasses in the summer & mix it with squid for my little casting snare. I do rock cod lingcod as well on the new sea angler so this next season I will ask for the lingcod livers that usually get tossed since they're loaded with oil/scent.

Pautzke, Nice to know what doesn't work!! I have seen guys slathering their bait with the stuff and getting skunked but snaring can be like that. This was a good test!!

I have used Pautzke and it has worked. It just didn't work on this trip...but I am a huge fan of the Pro-Cure.

Yes. Dungeness crab has a very sweet taste. Closer to a lobster than a blue crab.

Checking for soft shell isn't something I do all the time...a lot of times I can go by feel (how heavy it feels).

Because it isn’t legally required. If the crabbing is so good I’ll easily limit out I test, if the crabbing is so poor I may leave empty handed I don’t test.

I'm not sure if you know that 75% of the viewers including me will never experience catching those awesome tasty crabs so almost all of y'all don't show what's just an exciting as catching them and that's cooking them up in some good recipes and showing how good they really taste the eating part how does it work 1 st put traps out 2 and let them sit them pull them up and hopefully there full 3 ard bring them home and start cleaning thenn show how you going to cook them up and final part Sitting down around the table and showings how good they really taste and that's how y'all's videos should look like

It's still crabbing with bait. Try throwing in an empty trap and see what happens. That would be crabbing without bait.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Trap 1 chicken Trap 2 chicken with new box ******Trap 3 towel with brine (the no bait... Of course I would say that's bait.)******* Have you ever heard of testing? You have a control of some quantity and then what you are testing comparing difference between control and test. In general then you repeat these several times to see if there is reproducible results. The issue I have is the bait in the no bait trap is using a towel with brine made from crab and shrimp.
