Willys jeep wheel bearing setup! In this video I show the steps to setup the wheel bearings on your old Willys Jeep. This should apply to most cj2a, cj3a, CJ3B, and early cj5’s. Correctly torquing your wheel bearings will make them last longer and be more reliable.

Great explanation. So many folks jack that up. It impacts bearing wear and steering if you don’t do it right. Yes you gotta get the new hardware. It’s so worth it. Thanks for the fun.

This was the perfect timing to release this video. I changed the hubs and installed new bearings about a year ago. I haven't done any crazy offroading but I lifted the front end the other day and driver's side had play in and out so I'm thinking I may have never put enough preload on the bearings. Going to recheck them all.

I seen that procedure somewhere ;) good practice when torquing the first nut to spin the hub as you torque. a good way to fold that washer is use a flat head screwdriver about a foot long or more. they tend to be allot narrower and the fold usually is easy.
@SevenBarSalvage
@SevenBarSalvage 2 жыл бұрын
I meant to say that about rotating while you tighten… there’s always something I forget to say. I’ll have to get a big screwdriver! Thanks!

Thanks for the video,good information,refreshed my memory on bearing setting preload,my 48 has Trans/Transfer case out right now replacing a few things inside,mostly seal leaks,no fun topping the front and rear diffs and Trans/Transfer case up in the evening and next morning one third is on the floor,mostly original with around 36,000 miles and original seals,time hasnt been good to them,time to seal it up,also have to go through knuckles and rebuild them with bearings,races,seals and set the preload on those too,I have allkinds of Willys service manuals,but still enjoy videos like these,anything Willys!Thanks!

Great info! and the Jeep is looking good. I will need to get one of those large sockets, but I remember people back in the day would make a socket out of a piece of muffler pipe or thin wall pipe the right size, by heating it red hot and shaping the flats of the nut. ($8 bucks plus $21 bucks to ship here...ebay )

Thanks for the Tork spec's 50lb washer locations. My dalmatic's are freshly greased but when I tighten the 6 nuts, they jam tight, won't move from free to lock at all.

When you torque the outside bearing nut to 50 lbs. Do you need to back it off I flat on the socket like the first bearing nut?
@SevenBarSalvage
@SevenBarSalvage 2 жыл бұрын
No, the first nut sets the preload, the second really locks everything in. It doesn’t hurt to rotate the hub while you set the first nut though. Thanks!
