Willys Jeep Windshield Glass Install!

Willys Jeep windshield glass install! In this video I finish the repairs to the windshield with a fresh piece of glass. In the previous video I unfortunately cracked the old glass when reinstalling it into the new seal. I made some calls and found a local glass shop that cut me a brand new windshield glass for $100. This really completes the windshield refresh and tied everything together great!

40 years ago I had the same about problems restoring my Jeep ..Same as yours but not in the States..I was in Greece and found all the parts I needed at some shops and yards, witch had old Army surplus trucks, jeeps and sometimes parts of them...We had not the luck to have those parts like the modern front disk conversions etc..Anyway I managed to reconstruct it ALL ORIGINAL except the engine..I made a clutch conversion plate and installed an old OPEL Olympia motor in it..All the rest remained original M38 or CJ2A better (my Jeep was with the split front window ).. I had it more than 6 years as a daily car and enjoyed all the time.. Even our daughter was almost born in it,as I was driving my wife to the hospital !! Luckily I made it on time !!.. Now, sometimes,I wish I had it again.. Now that I have all the time in the world as I am retired truck driver since 2020... Thanks for the content and your time to share with us your videos with it.. We install the same windows and seals in the old tractors you're locking seal actually goes to the outside to help prevent the window from being pushed in on the operator it's a safety thing

Researching this it was kind of split on which side people recommended. You’re correct the strip is designed to be on the outside. But on these Jeeps people argued that with the windshield folded down there was a great chance of the windshield popping out on trail if you hit a bump. I might end up swapping it around later, thank you for your comment I appreciate it!

Found your channel about two weeks ago and I have enjoyed watching it it’s nice to see a young feller interest in Old jeeps I traded a Remington 12 gauge for my first one some 40 years ago growing up in the panhandle of Florida my windshield stage strap to the hood except when I need to work on the engine

Nice work! Thanks so much for the tool advice!! Funny how many comments are about how intimidating this job is! Im restoring a Meyers Orville steel cab that came with the 65 cj5 I bought last year. I got all the glass out with my painter’s tool, but broke the very last piece as it was almost out! Oops. Well your video has inspired me to go all the way with the Jeep too and get the glass out of the frame. A great reminder of integrity- doing what’s right over what’s easy! Great end result. I see others have already mentioned the strip goes on the outside, but I also like your response. Now I'll have to go to my workshop and see which way mine is fitted, although it's possibly a different seal as I have the opening windscreen in my 3B. Thanks for sharing.

There wasn’t a lot of information out there on this some people showed pictures of Jeeps leaving the factory with the strip on the inside, but just because it’s “factory” doesn’t mean it’s right. I’m not too concerned about it. Yeah let me know! Thank you!

I have old 71 cj5 had to replace the windshield . It took them a week to do it . They said it would pop out when they got it to the end . But they finally got it took a week but got it done 😄

You were using the wrong tip, with the Lisle locking seal installer, it works much easier with the next larger size tip that came with that tool. Spreads it wide enough so that the locking seal drops right in. Just rock the tool back and forth easy as you apply pressure to slide it along the windshield rubber.

My Scout has beaded window seals like that in the rear, the bead is on the outside like others have mentioned but I honestly don't think it matters, that thing isn't going anywhere.

The lock strip go's on the front side you put it in backwards

I had several others comment the same thing so I did some research on it. There doesn’t seem to be any mechanical advantage either way. Some Jeeps left the factory with the locking strip on the inside. The reason you typically see it on the outside is because most vehicles don’t have a fold down windshield for easy access. It looks cleaner with the locking strip on the inside too. Thank you for the comment and for watching!

Walcks4wd and Kaiser Willy’s both sell it precut but it’s over twice the price of what I paid. I called a local glass shop sounds like it’s pretty common. Hope this helps!

@@lavonmarshal3127 They said they cut all kinds of flat glass for old vehicles. A 2A would probably be easier because I think it’s square corners, they just need the correct dimensions.
