In this video I revisit an old video I shot over a year ago. I discover the sea surface of the front yoke was severely pitted. I installed a less pitted seal. I might have stopped the leak temporarily but it was not a permanent fix for the Dana 18 transfer case. By installing a Redi Sleeve I permanently fixed the seal surface of the yoke. This is a great fix for any old yoke and applies to most Willys cj2a, cj3a, CJ3B, and cj5 Jeeps!

we used to make our own sleeves during my apprenticeship in Switzerland 45 years ago since ready sleeves were not available. We installed them with gasket sealer on the inside to prevent seepage. We also did the same with the yoke. And we added the O ring. To prevent oil leaks during the repair, just jack the Jeep up to drain oil away. Love your videos. They are very informative, down-to-earth and pleasant to watch. And I appreciate your budget-friendly solutions! Thank you

Wow! Your story is incredible! It's amazing what people used to go through to repair equipment. We're so damn spoiled this day in age.

Good job. Liked when shaft sleeves came out. Used now in many repair jobs to get equipment back in service. I think sanding the yoke surface with 400 grit preps the surface. Clean with acetone, then put on some retaining compound on yoke and redi-sleeve so nothing gets by the metal to metal. Other option if it does not have one is to use a double lip seal, we used them on old gearboxes with worn surfaces to get by.

Speedy sleeves have better wear properties than the original yokes, so a repair is often a better option. You did a nice job:-)

I had previously done that but I believe the later model yoke with the O ring it’s not necessary, but I guess I’ll have to wait and see! Thanks for watching!

Just rebuilt my cj2a up here in Alaska.... when I did the transfer case I found a little r.t.v. on the washer does the trick for sealing the splines on the yoke....

It’s a good idea! Especially if you don’t have the O ring. And it beats slathering your output shaft and making a mess for later

I have put a lot of wear sleeves on heavy equipment easiest way to get them on if you can is put the yoke in a freezer if handy and in the summer time here in tx is put the sleeve on the hood of a pkup leave them about 30 minutes and just drop the sleeve on no fuss you can heat up the sleeve in a oven just don’t get it to hot

That works for most press fit parts. Freezer to shrink one and heat to expand the other. Slips right on….. usually 😉

They make the same sleeves for the pinion yokes. After I changed the pinion seals, they still leaked. I had do the same thing on them. I think I paid $22.00 a piece from rockauto. They said they didn't have the front one, so I ordered 2 rears, the front was the same as the back rear. It's be nice when nothing leaks.

Hi , I used speedy sleves many times , they work fine .also those new yokes are most likely made in China or Tiwon .

the original yokes were made in the US. So you're implying those were junk and the Chinese made are good? I've never heard of Tiwon, is that a new country? Do they also make better products than the US?

Great video (sorry think I hit thumbs down first time I watched this. Mistake!) Just replaced the trans and transfer fluid in my 49 3a, probably for the first time in decades. No sooner did I button it up it began dripping out front and back yokes at an alarming rate. Think the old sludgy oil was the only thing sealing it up!
