4:30 mark Max Crosby's get off is just insane. Tyree Wilson still has both hands on the ground, Max is on his way to the QB, and the ball is still in the air off the shotgun snap.

During Wilson's first year in. Seattle, Seattle's Seahawks sports radio station had a football analyst DJ, who was a former player in the NFL. Every week he repeatedly pointed out how many plays Wilson was leaving on the field. Completely wide open receivers that he wasn't hitting. Finally after a while, he said on-air that the Seahawks had spoken with him and asked him to back off on these criticisms. - What helped Russ in Seattle is that even though he kept missing wide open receivers, he could extend plays with his legs and eventually find someone open. However, because he held on to the ball so long to do this, he took a lot of sacks and hits. But the biggest reason he got away with this is because the defense for several years, was the very best and most efficient at keeping the other team off the field. Seattle had the lowest point totals against, in the entire league for those years. But a coach like Sean Payton wants you to make the plays that have been specifically designed for the team to win. Its great if you can extend a play but he is not drawing up plays just for you to decide to do something different just because you cannot read the field accordingly. It's not just about how well Russ plays but is he playing within the design that Sean has planned and developed for the entire team to win. But Russ has never played this way, ever....and now he is getting older. Eventually Sean Payton is going to go with the quarterback that he brought to "his" team and not the QB someone else hired regardless of how much money the team paid. Why would he care about that? That would be silly and this is not a silly coach. He wants to win the way he has won his entire career. He is not going to be the one to adjust his entire career for one player who he never brought to the team in the first place.

You typed all that nonsense when literally that’s exactly what Russ did in game 1. He made on schedule throws instead of holding on to the ball for moon shots. He did it so efficiently that his haters have moved the goalposts and called him a check down Charlie after that game. Never mind the fact that he took what the defense gave him and that they only had 6 total possessions and their points per possession where actually top in the league not even factoring in 4 points left on field by kicker and another TD left because a WR stepped out of bounds on what could have been another 50 yard TD. The skepticism that Russ can’t function in Sean Payton system is actually based on much uglier deeply rooted stereotype that I’ve seen many ppl regardless of race make which is a subconscious or conscious notion that a QB who looks like Russ isn’t cerebral enough. A laughable notion considering if he weren’t he wouldn’t be one of the most efficient passers in NFL history from the pocket. Ability to extend plays is completely unrelated to that . In fact some of the most athletic QBs in history were terrible at passing efficiency. In fact most were. And I’m convinced ppl can’t fathom that there is a you who actually can do both. Well it’s more difficult to fathom because he doesn’t look like Steve Young. Ppl haven’t seen anyone who looks like him make that transition. And I can’t wait till the haters are forced to move the goalposts when Russ like he’s done his whole career proves them wrong. Because same ppl said he couldn’t even succeed at 25 let alone 35

Glad to see you back at it again Kurt! At this level, I think the receivers and team know what they have, or don't have in Wilson. Psychologically, my guess is that if I'm a pro and a receiver I will do my best to run a good timely route and if I get the ball great and if not, I still get a paycheck. I think what Maxx Crosby said after the game was simple yet interesting. He said "We have a close room" meaning he and his teammates help each other and encourage each other no matter what. If it turns out to be a given with Wilson's faults, I don't see how the Bronco room can be close. And that certainly matters if you are going to win games and be a champion. What Sean Payton is trying to do is what Pete Carroll can say, "Been there done that." It's surprising to me Denver couldn't have figured that out before signing Wilson to such a huge contract. If Jarrett Stidham gets his chance somehow this year, I hope he will be prepared to take advantage of that opportunity. Denver seems to be mediocre at the moment. We'll see what happens.

Great breakdown! Russ played it so safe (4.6 YPPA) it was detrimental to winning. It definitely wasn’t good enough. He has struggled to play on time his entire career, it’s the give and take of his style, and despite his heroics at times due to him holding the ball to long and the play breaking down, for every play like that there’s 4 missed opportunities. It was the most frustrating part of his game in Seattle too.

One thing I'll say though Kurt is that when you look at the year end stats for Russ even in Seattle, he always had the fewest completions with throws over the middle. Quite often, dead last. What do you attribute that to? Three offensive coordinators tried to get him to hit the receivers in the middle of the field in Seattle and all lost their jobs. There is a quote somewhere that I read when the coaching staff was upset during a game and asked why he did not hit the open player and his reply supposedly was, I did not see him. How important is it to be able to make completions over the middle of the field? According to an article by Jay Dubin for CBS, 24.8% of all NFL passes last year were thrown to the left side of the field. 26.3% of all passes were to the right side of the field and finally, 48.9% of all passes were thrown to the middle of the field. That tells us that there is a high expectation by coaches of the QB to be efficient in that area of the field.

I think most of the stuff your pointing out is just new system type things. New progressions. Obviously last year nobody could tell what type of progressions he was going through as he read the play. (Hackett was a mess). This game, like with Roseburg, at least his reads are noticable and pragmatic. It's hesitant based on the new system. Which is the 3rd and a half in 3 years. Things will get ironed out. The same as receivers staying in bounds and passes being tighter. Special teams really do make a difference in a game

@@js290 exactly, and Hackett'slast year really had everyone thrown for a loop. My point, last year was an anomaly. Even when Russ was in Seattle he played well, they just never adjusted the second half of the season. Trust me, I've watched basically every snap Russ has taken since 2018
@truthbearer7891
@truthbearer7891 Жыл бұрын
That game was a perfect reason why ppl shouldnt watch box score. That was one of the best games Russ has played the last 5 years. That Philip Dorsett stepping out of bounds changed the whole game. Should have been another 40-50+ yard TD. Also another drive ended because the Oline completely let Crosby own them, and the RB not running down hill to pick up the first down. And it was only 6 drives in all. Russ isn't going to complete 80% of his passes every game like that opener, but if he is anywhere close to as efficient as he was that game, the Broncos offense should be closer to top 10 than bottom 10 by the end of the year. And Russ should establish himself as a QB who at least gets another year on this team as they give him some more actual weapons and now that the trade is over they should have all the draft capital to do so. Russ showed me that he can in fact do the short quick game that Drew Brees did when he was older. I think ppl are skeptical Russ can do it becasue extreme bias agaisnt dual theat QBs, but Russ has always been far more efficient than the average dual threat QB. If he stays helthy despite the agenda of the media, I think Russ is going to play well enough that regardless if the Broncos make the playoffs or not (lots of holes right now especially with the #2 CB who may get cooked all year and lack of pass rush) to make more of a title run next season.

I'd say that lack of comfort isn't any different than most QBs which stems from playing from an Oline that can't hold up for most of his career and was even worse last year as it was decimated with injuries in the interior last year in Denver. It's a reason why the Seahawks took two offensive linemen with 2 of their top 3 picks in the draft after trading Russ. They pretty much were acknowledging how they had neglected that position. And the most underreported story last year was not only Russ being injured last year but how bad the Broncos Oline was. There are too many agendas against Russ for ppl to accurately assess what happened last year in Denver. Too many people who want to push the narrative that all mobile QBs have quick decline at a certain age. That none of them are actually cerebral and can extend their career once their athleticism diniminishes. Well at least not any who look like Russ, because they would extend that grace and benefit of doubt to a Steve Young. And some will even extend it to a Josh Allen who is even more reckless and less efficient than Russ. Then there are others who can't stand Russ in your face religion. It's just like Tim Tebow. The difference is Russ played at a HOF level for so long with so few bad years in sight, they couldn't run him out the league like they did Tebow. Last year was an opening. Now they are trying to manufacture a hot seat for him. The reality is all these Russ haters are halfway in trouble because Russ finally has a competent coach again who is going to put him in position to succeed. And I only say halfway because fortunate for the Russ haters, his weaopns are so depleted right now that they can't fully capitalize. But he should play well enough to keep his job this season and for them to add some actual weapons in the off-season. Especially since they dont owe any more draft capital for acquiring him. And those haters will be absolutely miserable when they do get some actual speed and talent at the WR/TE position. Because despite the dog whistling to the contrary, Russ is actually cerebral enough to play at a high level another 2-3 years even with diminished physical gifts a la Steve Young.
@judo3136
@judo3136 Жыл бұрын
@@truthbearer7891 Totally agree with everything you just said. And the media blitzkrieg stems from Russ's guarded generic answers. They went from being impressed with how he carried himself as a young man, to now years later wanting more from him. That's why Dan Patrick was so pushy about getting a clip from him a few years back about his OL. Even though he literally didn't say what they ran with in the media. He said the protection up front starts with himself. But I like this pressure they've placed on him, I think it's been fun so far to see how he responds on the field. He's decisive, dialed in. Edgy Russ is the best Russ.

That play on 9:00 when I was watching the film made me so disappointed because he hit this similar throw in Carolina last year with Jeudy. This was their first game. I can't wait to see a more recent evaluation. My bet is that even at 6-5, Warner will point out the same exact things happening. Wilson isn't suddenly playing really well. Payton changed the offense to rely less on Wilson and more on the running game. Why? Because Wilson bails on plays rather than making reads. He'd rather improvise. As Warner points out, Wilson can still make the throws. That's not the issue. He's just overwhelmed by the speed of the game. The pass rush has him timid, so he looks to scramble immediately. Perhaps it's because he can't make the reads quickly enough. It's hard to say, but his stats suggest he isn't getting better. He plays like a rookie.

Wilson had a strong running game behind him in Seattle and years playing with many of the offensive players. His 107 passing rating Sunday was 4th best in the league. YUP- Hackett got a real bad situ last season & that's not to say he didn't have massive self inflicted wounds getting worse thruout the season however the TRUTH is obv as it was LAST YEAR>>> Wilson's mental game just doesn't exist any longer bcuz he has his 1/4 billion, his "legacy" & his trophy wife & he simply DOES NOT CARE- TRUTH & FACT! When you play QB at the NFL Level you MUST 100% take what the DEF gives YOU & TAKE EVERYTHING THE DEF GIVES YOU... he simply DOES NOT CARE any longer. It's as simple as that- its as complicated as anyone wants to make it. So its great he has lost weight but ONLY HE can do anything about his mental game & his DRIVE to max the opportunities the Def & his OFF provides for him. So there is a drill you can run where you take the entire PLAYBOOK & have the depth players play DEF & OFF in 7 on 7 where your QB: SEE IT SAY IT THINK IT MAKE IT... every play over & over until it is PERFECT without error... Every time he FAILS to say the all correct thing you blow the whistle & start again... everytime he says the WRONG thing you blow the whistle & start over again... this is a drill that really sux for everyone but eventually the QB will SEE IT & SAY IT... What this drill does is it gets the QB into the deliberate restrained aggressive MODE- where he is seeing his PROGRESSION WINDOWS[OFF] & making his correct READS [DEF] & then making the BEST DESCION on every single play regardless of how it plays out DEF wise So after a successful run thru the playbook 3 times [or a set number of play variations each time] the QB will be in that heightened mind revving place that is disciplined & applying a deliberate restrained aggression approach = TAKING WHAT the DEF is GIVING Him & TAKING EVERYTHING the DEF is GIVING HIM- within the play as designed & as it shakes out... So at the END of the DAY the SEE IT- SAY IT- THINK IT- MAKE IT... becomes: SEE IT- MAKE IT during the deliberate restrained aggression adapted QB who then is ready to Rock & Roll! Unfortunately that HS level type of drill that is used to get kids who want to play QB in the proper mindset & test whether they can or cannot process info at a high fast & all correct level>>> to be worth continued investment in training at QB>>> has NOTHING to do with the kids motivation... it is my absolute & rock solid belief that there is NO training & never will be any training to "help motivate" an NFL QB >>> either you are self motivated or go away... who exactly needs any motivation to be an NFL QB making all that cash, having all that fun playing the sport you love & doing it with your teammates to win a CHAMPIONSHIP... in other words- if you NEED HELP with that >>> its a waste of time & nothing will be sustainable anyway. This is 100% on Wilson & until he digs deep inside himself to retrieve that inner DRIVE to want to succeed at this level- everyone is wasting their time & resources on him. If I was the HC- I would give him 1/4 of the Season to get his head right & sure take him back to HS for the SEE IT SAY IT THINK IT MAKE IT drill & find out whether that can kickstart the mindset to adapt him into the SEE IT MAKE IT deliberate restrained aggression mode [DRAM]- but in the beginning, thruout & at the END of the DAY- ONLY Wilson can find the WILL & END the DRAMA by getting his mind set corrected for playing QB in the NFL>>> there are dudes who make less than $20.hr that find the motivation to get up at 5am work until dusk & do that their entire lives to put ever more expensive food on the table for their family & provide an opportunity for a better life [an ever diminishing possibility in the DEBT SLAVERY UNCUSA Currency economy of America today] what exactly is the prob with being motivated when you receive 1/4 BILLION DOLLARS to play QB in the NFL >>> so if it isn't there it isn't there & hopefully HC Peyton has the strength & integrity to see THAT & bench him after 1/4 of a season if he continues to NOT CARE while playing QB in the NFL. this is a TEXTBOOK example of what happens when a GM pulling down a paycheck does NOT exercise DUE DILIGENCE by having a QB at least take snaps before executing a 1/4 billion dollar deal on behalf of owners who don't even own the team yet >>> IOW >>> WITHOUT OVERSIGHT people make exceptionally BAD DECISIONS with OTHER PEOPLES' MONEY! for further study of this problem see like everything our gov't does on a daily basis! Thanks Kurt, big fan & I really appreciate you giving back by spending your time inviting us into the QB ROOM for film analysis & breakdowns. May GOD Bless you & continue to bless others thru you- AMEN!

Wilson has been uncomfortable since like 2015 or 2016 season... ever since he got banged up and couldn't run quite as well he's been super skiddish imagining pressure from angles it wasn't at, and not seeing it from angles it was at. His spin move got solved when he lost a step and he could no longer elude good pass rushers. Less elusiveness means less broken plays, means less magical plays, means less praise, means less confidence. He might say all of the right things in front of the mic (at least what he thinks are the right things) but his play has never had that surgical precision and swagger of a pocket surgeon. Defenses don't seem scared of him ever since he lost a step and he can't truly assert his will. In reality when he was at his best it was because he was the second punch behind marshawn lynch who was truly the one asserting will on defenses. Wilson at this point of his career is serviceable to a degree, but probably the top 10 teams already know he isn't as mobile, and would love for him to try and beat them from inside of the pocket. He's not good enough without his legs anymore to play consistently well enough to go deep into the playoffs. The Wilson apologists and fanboys will try to blame some undiagnosed concussion from an arizona game, or his finger injury a couple seasons ago, but he's been playing like this with increasing slumps since 2015 or 2016... the slumps used to be a game here or there, then they started becoming long stretches.

Another dog whistler with lies and propaganda. Russell Wilson hasn't been comfortable since 2016? But from 2017 to 2020 he led the ENTIRE NFL in passing TDs. From 2017 to 2021 including the year he got hurt and missed time he was 2nd in the entire NFL in passing TDs and wins. Over a period of time where there was no LOB or elite Beast mode and included a year where Russell Wilson himself literally led the team in rushing and accounted for 37 of the teams 38 TDs. NOne of the nonsense ppl say about Russ do they say about Big Ben or the majority of Qbs who needed an elite D to make multiple Super Bowls. And that's despite Russ producting at a higher rate than several of those QBs per year like Big Ben. Same Big Ben who never had more than 17 TDs in a season where his team made the Super Bowl despite far better weapons. Yet no one is pretending he was Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson like they do with Russ. The ugly truth is people never thought a QB who looked and played like Russ could win a Super Bowl. So when he did it was nothing but goal post moving and discrediting of his accomplishment, regardless of his production to the contrary. People never thought a Qb who looked and played like him could be cerebral which is why it's all these narratives he only succeeds cause of his mobility regardless of him having one of the highest passer ratings in NFL history and tons of guys who are far better athletes than him historically having terrible passer ratings like Vick, Justin Fields, Kordelll, etc. There is zero correlation between speed and passer rating. In fact most of the guys who were great athletes weren't efficeint passers. SO when a guy comes along who actually is, who doesnt look like Steve Young. God forbid that guy get credit for his intellect like Steve Young. No it must be some other reason related to athleticism, because it always has to be physical gifts and not mental gifts for ppl who look and play like Russ. Unless if they are mixed like Mahomes perhaps thats the only exception right? Because we can attribute his great play to that side of the family.

So no he didnt win a Super Bowl without LOB. But guess what? Neither did Big Ben without his elite D. Even Aaron Rodgers the 4x MVP who I will say was clearly better than Russ, never returned to the Super Bowl again without that top 2 scoring defense he had in 2010. Appreciate the insight and breakdown and commentary, all good. The issue is film handling and voiceover. Running film back and forth repeatedly, sets up cognititve dissonance. This approach works well in court rooms, in review of police footage and in locker rooms; because people in the room are interacting wth the presentor. There is no interaction on KZbin. It is Kurt and no one else. There is far less need to rewind. Slow motion works better and better tracking tools results in greater understanding. We tune in because Kurt can see and evaluate in ways that we cannot. Pour on insight, but conisder changing the presesntation. Speak slower and "with the tape." Use slow motion and instread of rewind, set the tape back. Make your point, "speak with the tape" and close with one or two points, no more. Use stylus tool to articulate and to follow use tracking tools. These methods and slow motion have the potential to reduce film rewind by 70-80?%. Your voice and insight are strong. Above these you have credibility. It comes across. Bank on it! The tape should in service to your insight and native assets, not the reverse. Film room rewind and analysis work in the locker room because coaches and players point things out, its interactive and collaborative. Not so with KZbin. It's one person with a pencil and screen. After 3-4 minutes I gave up watching. My brain hurt. The commentary and granularity are fine. but video handlng and candence is not. That's literally just a lame narrative because of extreme bias ppl have against dual threat QBs. People act like Russ ran the ball per game as often as Jalen Hurts or Justin Fields or that he was as limited a passer as those guys. Russ was always one of the most efficient passers FROM THE POCKET. He literally sustained drives the whole game which is why there were only 6 drives the whole game. The difference in the game is a kicker left 4 points on the board, a WR stepped out of bounds for another 40-50 yard TD. And the defense couldnt keep the Raiders off the field which again is why there were only 6 possessions the entire game.
@PlaySA
@PlaySA Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. He's just gotta change his mindset. Literally the main change he needs is to just fire it in there when there's something open. It's never gonna be perfect, but he needs to put it in his brain that it's not acceptable to just take a sack or be super late on a throw. Throw with confidence over the middle. The NFL has changed its defense, you're not gonna get as many go ball opportunities as you would before. These days you HAVE to rip it over the middle for easy chunk yardage, and be decisive even on checkdowns.

If that's how Russell Wilson look when he's uncomfortable, then he could def solidify himself as a top 10 QB again if he became comfortable. Because Russ was more efficeint that game than I've seen him in years. The final numbers just dont reflect it because they only had 6 total drives, 4 points were left on the board by the kicker, couple PI calls that led to hidden yardage, and one of the worst route running you will ever see from Philip Dorsett blew a 40-50 yard TD by stepping out of bounds. If he actually progresses and gets more comfortable in that offense, the skepticism that he can't make the Drew Brees style adjustment with short quick passing game is completely unfounded and Russ could easily have 2-3+ more years of high end QB play. This is not even factoring in the depleted weapons he had from not only missing Jeudy but without his top TE and that slow as molasses replacement they had in Trautman.

If he hasn't learned after 11 years, he's never going to learn going forward. It doesn't matter if an offensive system is new or not. The concepts don't change, only the terminology changes in the different systems. I can't believe I have to watch this for at least 2 more years. I was hoping some strong coaching from Sean would be able to help Russ this season, but it seems nothing can get through that thick skull of Russ.
