Fun to watch someone who isn't afraid to work. Always good to make your road wide enough to begin with. 😅

That's a another downside to clearcutting. Generally trees rely on other trees for "protection" so in the end it still brings more collateral damage. And those were some beauties. Seems every single time I get blowdown it is a nicer tree that I intended to keep long term.
@WilsonForestLands11 ай бұрын
Those big beauties were the trees on the timber company’s side of the property line. On the next video I show the ones on my side that came down because of the clearcut.

My neighbor's neighbor clear cut. Similar wind blowdown but smaller trees. He lost a Toyota tundra and a shed we had just built. We cleaned it up. The tractor grapple was helpful. I like your use of a 462 as a swing blade. If Stihl just made a curved blade it would be so much easier. Ha!
@WilsonForestLands11 ай бұрын
Blow down from clearcuts seems to be a common story. Actually Stihl does make something that would be close to the equivalent of a curved blade. An appropriately angled hedge trimmer type attachment for a trimmer. Supposedly it works quite well in situations like that. I am thinking of getting one.

Wilson, I did give a "like" (not for the catastrophe) but the fact you filmed and posted this video. I do know that gut-punch sensation of discovering downed trees, because we went through it, likely the same series of rain/wind storms. I hope you can reclaim some of the damages in milling and/or selling some of those really big logs. Cheers from a smoky Willamette Valley

I know you know what it’s like. With the lousy lumber market right now, compensation will be more for the labor I put into cleaning up the mess.

@@WilsonForestLands what happens when a really big tree from the neighbour crashes on your property, damaging fences, destroying a road.. Would they have to pay for the cleanup?

I don’t know for sure but I think it would be considered “an act of god”. It may be different in someone’s yard but in the forest I don’t think they would be liable.

I agree with Matt F (comment below); after the adjacent landowner clearcut his property, I began losing nice, healthy, "keeper" trees. (Looked just like yours at the 8:00 minute mark. Lost two-months cleaning up, hauling out and still haven't been able to mill it up.) G--damn clearcuts. I can think of nothing good to say about them.
@douglaschamberlain977311 ай бұрын
I do not understand clearcutting. I know it’s easier for mechanical logging, and much more profitable. However, clearcutting is SO destructive. It affects the structure of the forest, water quality, the integrity of the ground, wind patterns-on and on. And, as you experienced, those effects do not honor property lines. What I do on my land shapes yours.

Thanks for the request. I will try to remember to do that in a situation where it comes in handy. Usually that is in falling timber, which I won’t be doing for a while since I will be cleaning up these trees that are already down. That might make a good short, I will keep that in mind.

That property belongs to a large timber company with many thousands of acres. It’s probably the least of their concerns but I plan on talking to one of the local foresters about it. Thanks for watching me do all the work. Feel free to bring your chainsaws, hardhats and sawmills out and help clean up this mess. 😁
