Think about this.... When Wilt played for the Harlem Globetrotters, he would routinely dribble the ball up court, and he would also hit thirty five foot hook shots. So, if he played in today's league he'd be shooting three's and making them. At age 50+ he was still bench pressing over 420 pounds. Still holds many records that will never be broken. My top three: 1. Wilt 2. MJ 3. Larry Great reaction bro.

One of the best player analysis videos I've seen on KZbin. I watched Wilt quite a bit back the day (born in '53), more so after he had gone to the Lakers. He was a force. I 100% agree with the effects of a good coach on Wilt's game; tell him what to do and he'll do it better than anyone else. And Wilt was not just a basketball player; he was an overall athlete, and excelled in many different sports. Also agree that he lacked killer instinct. In summary, I agree that there's a small group that all qualify as GOATS, and Wilt is definitely in it.

I grew up worshiping Wilt. My dad took me to watch Wilt play live against the Warriors battling Nate Thurmond several times in the late 60's. IMO his 3 most impressive records, which will never be broken, are single-season ppg, rpg, and mpg (50.2, 27.2, 48.5). He averaged 45.8 mpg over his 14-year career. If he could have just made free throws.

A couple of fun facts. His novelty with the Globetrotters was being a 7 foot Point Guard, that's where he played for them. He would have gone to the 1960 Olympics in the decathlon except for being deemed "professional" for being payed to play basketball before. He was also drafted by the Cleveland Browns to play tight end when he left college, imagine him and Jim Brown coming at you. So many great stories about him.

Are you sure about the browns? I know he raced Jim brown, and worked out for Hank stram of the Kansas City Chiefs for tight end. But I've never heard of him getting drafted by the Browns. Plus if he did they would have owned his rights which would have prevented him from working out for the chiefs. Also I would imagine he would have mentioned that in one of his books but he didn't.
@theemaygoogleme151
@theemaygoogleme151 Ай бұрын
@@jasonnelson6624 That might be an internet "factoid" that passed my filter, but it seems like it was a late pick, 9th round, maybe 11th. The draft was a lot different in those days before mergers, free agency, players unions and generational wealth type contracts came along so it seemed reasonable.
@jasonnelson6624
@jasonnelson6624 Ай бұрын
@theemaygoogleme151 yeah since it was before free agency they would have owned his rights. To be honest its possible that you might have confused the Browns for the chiefs. Because the chiefs workout made the newspapers. Thats also how we know his 40 yard dash time. But its hard with Wilt with all the stories and they all seem absurd just to find out it was true and real. I still have my doubts about him lifting a car so they could change a tire. Not once but two different times. That just sounds impossible to me but multiple people and different people have said it so who knows. When it comes to Wilt I think if anyone could he would be a good candidate.

Wilt was the most unstoppable force to ever walk on a basketball court. I am old enough to remember him. I'm a Celtic fan so I relished the C's winning against him, but he was absolutely the most dominant basketball player I ever witnessed. He really only had a roster around him a couple of times that were good enough to be champions, and he won with them. Basketball is a team game as far as I know. MJ didn't win until he had Pippen and Armstrong and Paxon, Grant, and Cartwright. Before that he was losing to the Pistons in the playoffs. Bird needed McHale, Parrish, and DJ. It has always been that way in the league. To my knowledge there have been only a couple of teams that won it all without a fully loaded roster, perhaps the Warriors who had Rick Barry and a good group around him, the Bullets team of the 70's, and the Seattle Sonics of around that time. There is no doubt that Wilt would have dominated any center of any era. When he was already old he blocked Alcindor's hook and basically knocked the Bucks, Alcindor's (before he became Kareem Abdul Jabbar) first team out of the playoffs. He was far stronger and more athletic than Jabbar through most of his career. Even Shaq would have had a tough time moving Wilt, who by the time he was in his prime weighed nearly as much as The Deisel but was far stronger. There was just no one like Wilt Chamberlain.
@CoachWizReacts
@CoachWizReacts Ай бұрын
I wonder why he is still overlooked somehow? They acknowledge his greatness and dominance obviously but is it possible to still be underrated and under valued?
@tom7471
@tom7471 Ай бұрын
@@CoachWizReacts Well, there are many older people who realize just what he was -- a force physically unequaled. He had 100 points in a game and five times he had more than 70 points. He hit the 60 point mark 32 times. I think Kobe is second with six games over sixty. Chamberlain would have had dozens of quadruple-doubles but they did not include blocked shots during his time, robbing him and Russell of having so many of those that it would be shocking! He had over 23,000 rebounds in his relatively short career (13 years) which is still the most in league history and over 2,000 more than second place Bill 'The Great' Russell. To put in perspective, LeBron has just over 11,000 rebounds and has played seven more years than Chamberlain. Wilt had 55 rebounds in one game. I know he was bigger than most all around him, but 55 rebounds! It means you have to be quick, too. He averaged 23 plus rebounds per game for his career. I'm telling you he was one of a kind. To me, Jordan was the most electric player to watch, Russell the most brilliant defensively, and Bird the most clutch and he made is team better the most with his completeness, but Chamberlain was the one single guy who was the most dominating, IMHO. Love your videos.

Wilt played when 2 hand checking was allowed. Wilt used basketball moves such as the fade away and the finger roll as opposed to the Shaq, LeBron move to offensively foul the defensive player out of the way to score. Not a basketball move. Wilt high jumped 6 feet, 6 inches, ran the 440 yards in 49.0 seconds and the 880 yards in 1:58.3, put the shot 53 feet, 4 inches, and long jumped 22 feet.His vertical, during his prime, was "46 to 48 inches, easy."He ran the 100-yard dash in 10.9 seconds, beat Jim Brown in the 40 yd dash shot-putted fifty-six feet (17 m), triple jumped more than fifty feet (15 m).his physical prime, Chamberlain was able to bench press 550 pounds, 85 pounds more than the max of Shaquille O'Neal, who many regard as the most physically dominant player of the modern era.Mar 22, 2021 Records Scoring: Scored 100 points in a single game against the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962. He also averaged 50.4 points per game in the 1961-62 season, which is still the NBA record. Rebounding: Averaged 22.9 rebounds per game for his career. Wilt averaged 30 pts and 22 boards a game for his CAREER.To put this in perspective, the year Shaq won MVP his numbers were lower that Wilts career averages. He also had a year where he averaged 44 pts and 25 boards a game led the league in games played , minutes played, PPG, RPG, FG% and shot almost 10% better that the league MVP Bill Russell and finished 7th for MVP. The year he averaged 50 pts and 25 boards a game he finished 2nd for MVP. The NBA should be ashamed of itself

Wilt Chamberlains 2 title teams were the two winningest teams of all time before mass expansion in the late 80s. 68-13 and 69-13 are better records than any CELTICS team ever including 1986! His Laker title team set the record with 33 straight wins! His worst rebounding season was better than all but Rodman's best season. In his last season, he set the NBA shooting percentage record at 72.4 playing against Hall of Famers like Kareem. Wilt is the only player to lead the league in scoring, rebounding and ASSISTS. He would have led in blocked shots and probably steals if those were official stats! He once had a quintuple double (pts, boards, assists, steals, blocks) in a game scored carded from video! I beg to differ about him needing the right conditions around him. He just needed a few all NBA players around him and then his team set records! He still played on the 2 winningest champions ever before the league was watered down with mass expansion!

IMO he's the GOAT..at his most dominant I can't see any other player that could match him. It's a myth that he didn't have any rival centers.. there were several great centers that were very competitive against Wilt! He wasn't the only tough big guy then, that's just silly to think that. But individually he was the best of them!

He was getting his numbers against Russell for sure but he wasn’t dominating him. Stat sheets can be deceiving. Russell wasn’t looking to score because that wasn’t his role. His job was to make wilts life as hard as possible and he did that better than anyone. There’s a reason wilt averaged 50 against everyone else and the numbers dropped significantly against the Celtics. He may have still got 30 and 27 but when wilts teams relied heavily on him scoring 40+ to win, and Russell is able to significantly cut that down and dent ur efficiency just a bit, your team suffers a lot more than Boston. Boston plaid high tempo fast break offense. But they weren’t a very good offense at all. They relied on their defense led by Russell to get stops and run the floor to get easy buckets all day. And Russell functioned similar to how draymond plays for gsw. So yeah Russell averaging 15 and 24. looks a lil less impressive than wilts 30 and 27 on paper. In reality let’s say wilts team averages something like 110 ppg but Russell’s defense on wilt cut that to 101. That’s just enough of a dip for Boston to score 102 and win the game. And that’s usually what happened. He did as good as a job as he could to slow wilt and make sure his team scored barely enough to take the W. They wanted wilt to go off and try to score every single time. Because the more he scored, the less he was gonna get anyone else involved. It took year for wilt to understand that getting everyone else involved made his life a lot easier. Cause averaging 50 with only 2 assist per game as the main ball handler is very bad for offense. It slows things down too much and makes it predictable. Of course the teammates they had played a part. But people overvalue some of Russel’s teamates in comparison to how individually dominant a defender Russell actually was. Those Celtics teams got close to losing to wilt sveral times, and well as the lakers with west and Baylor. But Russell was a PROBLEM in the clutch and they always found a way to pull out the victory.
