A marvellous video Sandy of a wonderful gathering of passionate, talented people keeping the old ways alive. I have a friend who owns a wood near Hereford in which he has recently gained permission to build a permit wooden dwelling there. Up until relatively recently he lived for 20 years in the wood in a modified bus. His name is Sherwood, he is a bodger, coppicer, charcoal maker, green woodwork tutor amongst other things and earns part of his living making goods from the woods. You have inspired me to go see him for a catch up and maybe get permission for a wild camp in his wood :)
@WiltshireMan7 жыл бұрын
That sounds great Paul. It would be good to meet such a person and even better if you get the chance to camp in the woodland too. Let me know how it goes. Sandy

Very interesting; even though there was not much dancing. ;-) The scythes seemed quite effective. I liked the shave horse that was carved to look more like a shave wolf, and I would have liked to see the gearing of that fine saw. The retort was charring wood, right? Was it for use in the forges?
@WiltshireMan7 жыл бұрын
The charcoal produced can be used for any purpose. I did see one chap using it on a forge but it soon burns. Coke is better for forge work.
@craigmooring20917 жыл бұрын
Right, because it's hot work and Pepsi doesn't satisfy. I know it is better, but there is actually a small company here that makes home forges designed for use with small blocks of wood. It appeals to homesteaders that have forested land and hence plenty of wood from dead-fall or husbandry.

@jeremyatkinson49766 жыл бұрын
It doesn't. Other european countries have signed accords to support trad crafts. Britain hasn't and is unlikely to to do after we leave as for at least the next decade we'll be skint. Even leading brexiteers agree that it will be hard at first.
