In Texas it's common for people to name an animal something that is the opposite of what it is. So if a horse looked really strong and muscular they might laugh and call the horse wimpy as a joke. It probably stuck after that. I'm a native Texan who grew up in the country and I saw it all the time. Just a thought.

For many years I owned a granddaughter of Wimpy P1. She was an outstanding mare with an outstanding temperament.

We owned Wimpy Leo from 1960-65. Wow, he was something else, especially for a ten year old kid to warm up
