Check out my latest whisky review and giveaway. I shot these 3 series of videos last year in a 6 foot snow bank in my yard so I thought it was high time they saw the light of day. They were my 1st ever videos I did when I was calling my channel "Wear It Like Bond" due to the fact I thought I would create a James Bond Lifestyle Channel. I mean it still is kind of like that, like the Ultimate Guys Channel, but thought I would just use my own name so people know who I am and it is attached to my Website and social media pages.
I will be dramming out 2 oz of this to share with my subscribers. Once I fill up the box of 2 oz samples from our tasting together, I will draw a name from one of my subscribers and send out an entire box of lots of 2 oz samples.
So today...I mean last year we are trying the Wayne Gretzky Red Cask Canadian Whisky.
Whisky Rundown & Tasting Notes:
Distillery location: Niagara Falls, Canada
Wayne Gretzky distillery opened on April 9th, 2017
40% ABV
An exceptional blend of Canadian whiskies which demonstrate the right balance between distillate flavour and a barrel influence for a creamy, rich taste. Rich and smooth with lingering notes of oak and spice. Finished in Wayne Gretzky red wine barrels.
Whisky made the Canadian way - locally sourced grains are individually distilled, matured and blended, then finished in red wine casks from our Wayne Gretzky winery.
This process 'polishes' the whisky, adding rich oak, vanilla and spice, and balancing all the elements to produce a refined and smooth whisky.
Our Ontario climate has an influence on barrel ageing; high annual temperature fluctuations in a non-temperature-controlled environment drives the whisky deep into the oak during warmer periods and draws it out during cooler periods. The location of the barrel within the rickhouse influences how it ages, depending on temperature, air flow and height within the room. This gives our distiller near infinite options when blending, to create the taste profile selected by Wayne himself.
A bright straw gold colour with a ruby red hue.
Nose: notes of toasty new oak, almond nuttiness, caramel and vanilla. Then underlying notes appear suggesting nutmeg spice and stone fruit. After adding a touch of water, added notes of sweet spice and dark raisin develop.
Palate: Smooth, round and robust, with a touch of woody tannins for structure, along with deep notes of toasted nuts and allspice.
Finish: long and lingering with a delicately sweet, smooth texture and flavours of nut and allspice.
