OUR 40th GIVEAWAY MINI !Meet Ted! A true piece of motoring history!
Having been built in April 1961 and registered on the 1st May 1961 this is the very first incarnation of the Mini, known in its early years as the Morris Mini-Minor (Morris) and the Austin Seven (Austin) before later in 1962 becoming known as just Mini. He was dispatched to The Ware Garages, Ware, Hertfordshire.
Ted is a Deluxe model coming with chrome trim, rear opening windows, adjustable passenger seat, also having a heater fitted. Finished in clipper blue paint and matching interior (brand new re trimmed from Newton Commercial), he smell like a new car!
Having had just 3 owners in his long 61 years, Ted has covered just 793 miles since having his fully rebuilt engine and gear box fitted. On this point, whilst the Mini was being refreshed, the decision was taken to replace and upgrade the engine to a more powerful 998cc engine. The original car and engine had covered just 30344 at this time but the original speedo was recon'd and set back to 0 (photographs of this too) Ted had been barn stored for 26 years until 2004 where he was purchased by his most recent owner then sent away for a light restoration, this included new wings and repainted in his original clipper blue paint. A documented & photographic book comes with him. Pretty much everything else was left as is or refurbished other than the brand new trimmed interior mentioned above. Even comes with 2 original keys.
Early Mini's make a wonderful sound and this is what the Mini should be, the pure essence of driving enjoyment! Ted still has drum brakes all around as he left the factory. The simplicity of the early Mini is quite beautiful. Original 3.5x10 wheels with recent new tyres keep you on the road.
Interior wise theres not a huge amount to say other than its as good as the day it left the factory and is just wonderful, so simple its delightful.
Obviously these early cars are MOT & TAX exempt (he does have MOT) also cheap to insure but I’d always recommend an agreed value as these are becoming very collectable thus very expensive also, but more importantly to find another in such original condition is almost impossible, they are only original once!
I've the heritage certificate confirming exactly what he is and unusually it has almost all the info available on them, body number, key number etc.
All in all theres nothing more that you could want from a Mini, MK1's are utter perfection!
