A long time Wheeler Dealer fan, HERE!. Yes I'm in America but I've been able to catch it online for years now. And I miss Ed and now I miss Ant, but I like Elvis. I gotta give it to the people that produce this show, they do a good job of putting another good character in there with a lot of automotive knowledge although I'm sure they also have behind the scenes people that help him with that automotive knowledge. People disagree and people go there own ways, we shouldn't judge them for being human. But the fact is it's a great show, It still has that charm and character but we all miss Ed and now Ant.😢

I own a 1979 MGB Roadster here in Oregon. I've owned this B since 1999 and gone through all systems. I retrofitted it with HS4 carbs from a 68 B, no emissions lowered it to pre rubber bumper height, properly with polyurethane bushings, and put an overdrive in 2010. I just logged over 700 miles going to a British Field meet and she drives wonderfully! Safety fast gentlemen.

When I was stationed in England I had an Austin Mini similar to to this. It was a 1962 model, white with a black top and red interior. It was an 850 as well. Never had so much fun driving a car! This video brings back great memories.

I have exactly the same model in London if you're interested?!

Near perfect my man love it. The original Minis are the smile machines, you can race all day and never get a speeding ticket. I'm so glad you kept it at 850cc and the original 10" wheel size. My brother had two when we were teenagers. A 1960 and a 1961 drove many miles in those fabulous little cars. One of his cars had the second gas tank we thought that was really special!

I like all of them, I think Mike is good also and it is clear all of the mechanics got on well with Mike. I also think Mike wrongly gets a bad wrap it is clear he is the brains behind the show so Mike keep doing your thing whether it is with Mark, Ant, Ed or anyone else as it is clear Mike can work with anyone and it still be a successful show.

It had a Mini Special from late 70's - also with drumbrakes in front and back. We also installed discbrackes (from a Mini Cooper) in front. With no brake servo you really had to slam the pedal to make them block. - we also installed a reduction valve so the rear brakes didn't braked more than the front brakes .(it happend ones before the reduction valve - resulting in a 360 spin on a highway)

I work in the trade and have a mk1 Cooper s. I enjoyed this and started paying attention when Nick Swift let him the workshop unattended😀. I think car guys like this deeper look into car restorations.

When I installed disc brakes without back plates, I cross drilled the discs so I could stop in the rain. If someone wanted more power out of a stock engine, I would swap to an Austin 1100 head so I could port it without hitting a water jacket.

Funny that it has an Austin badge on the bonnet, but Morris engine and instrument pod? Also, shouldnt it have a long gearstick?

Ah commented too soon, it is a long gearstick. Still Austin badges outside but Morris inside

Love the early Minis, had lots too and I can be very confident that speedo was reading at least 10% over. You can't do a comparison to a speed record but use the factory speedo in the car, that's just silly.

The drum brakes on a mini are fabulous in size compared to the mass of the vehicle. The amount of mass in de drumbrake has, which can take the brake energy is higher than the diskbrake. Disadvantage is the constant readjustment of the pads, to get straight behavior. I did several decelleration tests and clocked 10.2 m/s average decelleration, with wider tires around on a grippy road. (175/70) If Elvis would make a point he has to come with decelleration values before and after the expensive change. I have given my numbers....

Experienced total brake fade on many occasions but the tiny disc brakes on the early Cooper's were as bad . I knew of specialists who retro fitted twin leading shoes with competition linings . And l would be very surprised if the bottom end would tolerate that extra compression without a rebuild ! And l hope Elvis kept all the original parts ,

Did he say all the parts for this job weigh in at 422 pounds?!?!? 🤔😳😮 After some head scratching, I'm pretty sure he meant these parts COST 422 Pound Sterling...not weight. 😌

Ed left because they wanted him to do the work, but didn't want to film it, so even if he did come back, it wouldn't look any different than it is now. You know they do more work than we get to see. The mech theory & fixes were the best part. I still like Mike tho.

As recent comment, great to going back to British cars in Britain. Theres a lot of the interesting stuff missing. Re the mini cylinder head. Were both inlet and exhaust valves changed? If so why. Come on go back to W and D when the interesting bits were put in. It's the whole essence of the show.

So what would happen if you put unleaded petrol in an engine that ran on leaded petrol? 🤔
@timkinley17792 жыл бұрын
Ethanol free is the better choice. Older vehicles don't like Ethanol properties because of moisture. And Ethanol can reduce output by about 30% in some cases. There are additives designed to be softer on older engines (that were developed for lead).
@kasperkjrsgaard14472 жыл бұрын
The lack of “lead” to “grease” the valve seats could lead to excessive wear on the seats. It doesn’t necessary have to do that, but it have been seen previously.
@talbenavraham14785 ай бұрын
You forgot to replace the master cylinder as it's different from the drum system.

Such a shame that the brilliant Elvis has to be part of this nonsensical dumbed down content for those who have no idea about mini engines and what you need to do to get reasonable power from one

Nothing wrong with "dumbed down" because not everyone is a qualified mechanic or engineer to know how all this stuff works! I find it all fascinating and it's allna learning curve to me!
@malcolmlane-ley20442 жыл бұрын
@@andiparker3733 the trouble is Andi what you are “learning” isn’t correct or complete, that mini engine made less than 30bhp when new and smoothing off the ports on the head would have made virtually no difference without extra fuel, a freer flowing exhaust and a high lift camshaft. Ok you have learned the principle of gas flowing but when Mike drove that car, not only did it sound tuned more extensively but it was somewhat faster through the gears than an 850 mini would be. My point is WD shouldn’t treat its viewers with disrespect by misinforming them or glossing over important levels of accuracy. If you want to really learn something then watch Edd China ( the original WD fixer) mend things.
