Great job Andrew! Could you PLEASE do a video on how to correctly dispose of all these nasty chemicals we use for QT. This is important but generally ignored.
@PoloReef5 ай бұрын
guess you referring to copper formalin and maybe antibiotics ? Great question We try to neutralize that and in the end back into my cesspools buried i guess then seeping back into the earth.
@insanity42245 ай бұрын
@@PoloReef exactly 👍 because chucking these chemicals down the drain is not good. And videos explaining how to dispose correctly is a good thing to point to when our hobby is criticised.

Love this series, thank you for sharing your knowledge! I have got a question, when setting up your quarantine system, how do you ensure good biological filtration, would you seed a small sponge filter with a chunk of live rock from the DT?
@PoloReef5 ай бұрын
depends on how fast i need to set up or is it a permanent qt tank !! But yes. many bioballs or seachem matrix seeded in a display tank or sump.

I have a 310g mixed reef. QT all my fish myself (extremely thoroughly. Ordered a bunch of snails from a well known company- velvet was encysisted on shells due to a velvet outbreak a day or two after adding snails to the tank. All fish and coral were in tank for 6 weeks before adding the snails with no issues - nothing else was added. Velvet broke out, caught all my fish, re QTd everyone and put back in after 85 days fallow. I added fish back and velvet broke out again (assuming cross contamination of equipment)- this time I decided with help from LFS (their idea) to remove all coral and copper power the tank. Any reccomendations besides seachem cuprasorb, polyfilters and water changes to remove copper power after treatment is over? Thanks!

cuprisorb in s reactor too. always qt. snails.

If I have a 300 gallon FOWLER BUT have an eel in the tank what I can use to directly dose the tank

For tank transfer you forgot to mention you can treat for velvet with more offten transfers. 24 hour changes offer the best to beat the life cycle of velvet

i have a flame angel that is restless. always poking on the surface or swimming into the flow. eats better than everyone i treated the whole tank with Polyplabs MEDIC , i fresh water dipped him, treated him with both Kanaplex and Metroplex and he still does it. can his issue be neurological ? do you know if these fish act this way ?

When a client has an ick outbreak and I can remove the corals and inverts. Only rock and fish are left. I drop the s.g. 1.010/09 and I add in coppersafe or copperpower for a week and then do a big water change, add in cu remover and carbon and turn on the uv and skimmer if it's off too. Within 3 months time of doing 50% water swaps and renewing the cu remover regularly, the copper will dissappear, rocks won't hold in any copper and these two don't stain like cupramine. I've done it successfully a few times unfortunately having to perform this task.
@PoloReef5 ай бұрын
yes. that will work.

if you drop salinity id make sure ph stays up with a buffer.
@philcavallini96575 ай бұрын
@PoloReef the acidification of the water by the fish's excrements will cause the rocks to leach off into the water and buffer it some.

What would happen if some copper treated water, for a quarantine, accidentally made it into a display? I am seeing some weird die off now, and can’t pinpoint what went wrong. I believe somehow copper made it into my display.
