Casino Night Zone (not destroyed) was a means of getting more slaves (they'd end up in debt to Robotnik's rigged games). "I spent a billion Mobiums!" was disbelief at the fact that the casinos were sitting unused if he spent that much on them (because Grounder had the key all the time, and never thought to actually open them for business)

I love this video. A terrific insight into Robotnik’s descent into madness. He starts out not in control, unable to win the race. He tries to use others to make him happy, but it doesn’t work. They failed in the end, and the competitors call him insults, mocking both him and his confidants, his only way to achieve happiness. He is spiraling out of control both literally and figuratively Until he snaps. His demeanor is different. He loosens his restraints, and begins to cheat. He hasn’t removed all of his restraint quite yet, but he has slipped enough to resort to trafficking. His role as protagonist in the song throws the morality of his action into question. He merely desires to be happy, but do the ends justify the means? A billion mobiums is a lot, but don’t we all splurge time to time? He still restrains himself, however. He decides that he has earned a promotion in his own business; a promotion in his own psyche that he WILL achieve happiness through winning a race. He keeps himself in check by delaying his promotion, still clinging on to his ideals of fairness. He can see the fun begin, but he is still losing control. He won. He’s done it. The peak of his downward spiral. Hes let go of all restraint. He spends ALL of his money. He gives himself a promotion TODAY. The nice Egg is gone, and the Hard Boiled Egg is all that remains. Despite going mad, he grows back his hair, he has a son! He even dictates when the fun is officially over. But one more sliver of the Nice Egg remains. In a brief moment of compassion, he gives the bully back to his competitor, as a sign of good faith. The two identities of Nice Egg and Hard Boiled Egg have merged, creating the perfect Eggman The happy Eggman I particularly enjoyed how his spiral was portrayed as a positive thing in his life and a much needed kickstart to his goal of happiness. Though, if Hard Boiled Egg remained without Nice Egg, I’m positive Robotnik would not have achieved his goal. A satisfying conclusion to a satisfying story of insanity, personal motivation, and the irrational behaviors of rational people

This would actually be a pretty good plot for a cartoon/TV show episode: The villain is tired of always losing to the hero, so he decides to go all-out, putting every last bit of all of the power and resources at his disposal just to beat the hero in one contest. And in the end, he does it - but the hero is a good sport, congratulates him on his victory, and leaves, then the villain realizes he has nothing left because he used it all up in his plan to win. So even though he won, he still loses in the end.

I Honestly like eggman in this video, he doesn't threaten scratch or grounder into helping him, instead promising them a reward for helping him out. He realises he can't beat sonic the legit way, so used his capture experience to take tails and force sonic to throw the race instead. A bit of vaguely related trivia: In 1993, the year that AOSTH is from, Sega also sponsored the European Gran Prix at Donnington park. The race was won by Ayrton Senna, who despite having an inferior car which was otherwise poorly competitive, managed to jump from 5th position to 1st on the first lap ("The lap of the gods") He stayed there for most of the rest of the race and eventually won by a margin of over 1:20, which in motor racing is an enormous, almost unheard of margin. It is remembered as one of the greatest victories in the sports history. Senna was given a trophy depicting Sonic. I can almost imagine him saying "Yes, I did win didn't I?"

I work in an office and whenever there is an important audit to be done or some other big project, or sometimes even just day to day data entry, I always play this song on loop to get me through it. It's always been really motivating! I don't know what it is, but between the amazing beat and Robotnik's confident vibes, I feel like I can channel the fat man's energy and make anything happen, even if it seems hard or daunting. A few months ago I even started kinda using the lines "Finally everyone will know it, I'm the boss and you know it, right? Oh yes I am, and now I'm ready to conquer every inch of Mobius" and its subsequent line "Finally everyone will see it, I'm the best and you know it, right? Oh yes I am and now I'm ready to conquer the UNIVERSE!!" as like a sort of positivity mantra? It must have worked because as of last month I'm officially the manager of my own department.
