I inherited my grandfather's and had the pin replaced. I have never missed a buck with this rifle. This model 100 is topped with a Bausch and Lomb Balvor variable 2-8x40 fine hair tapered reticle. This scope has no reticle adjustments. The scope is sighted in using the adjustable base camshaft. This scope and ring system also has a spring loaded ring system that allows you to remove the scope and use it on any gun that has the same bases. Still dead on.

Despite changing the firing pin, my Model 100 burps all rounds down range with one pull of the trigger. Although that in itself is pretty cool, it is beyond scary. Slam firing I do believe it’s called. The guy who sold it to me did so knowing that it would be a problem. It has been relegated to a single shot rifle and I don’t use it because of it. It’s a very nice rifle. Mine is terribly inaccurate as well. Nice work on all the details and research you put into this.

I have 2 model 100's in .308, I still use the carbine (it has the new firing pin)but the rifle does not,any without the new pin should only be fired single shot , my rifle has a broken stock at the mag well ,I would like to get a synthetic stock made and get a new firing pin ,these rifles are well used and have taken many whitetails in the East Everglades in S Fla. They show the use because of the rough and slippery ground conditions they have hit the ground more than once and hauling them in gunracks have taken a beating.

Even if they were fired single shot, the ones without the firing pin upgrade I mean, wouldn’t that still cause an accidental discharge if the bolt was closed on a single round if the firing pin was stuck in the protruded position? In my opinion, guns that didn’t receive the upgrade should not be used at all.

Anyone have any advice on a model 100 in 243 that won't extract cases? Been chasing this for a while. This was my very first rifle and it was given to me by my Grandpa. Trying to get it in tip to shape to let my son use. Another pro tip, check the trigger guard screws every time you get it out. If they back off and the bolt closes over them it's bad deal. If you thought putting it back together was hard, wait until you have to deal with that.

Thanks for the heads up on the screws. Mine (in 308) has a few hiccups ejecting (I assume you meant EJECTING and not EXTRACTING) cases but I don’t use it much and blamed it on the soft point ammo. They remove the two action screws and thumb the charging handle fully rearward with one finger and pull the barreled action out. I was literally shaking with adrenaline and by biceps aching by the time I got mine apart. The "normal" travel in the action was tight enough to make me sweat but then you have to pull the charging handle past the normal point to remove and reinstall and it was a mother bear. Don't know why mine was so tight compared to the videos I've see, but then again, mine is an unfired NIB is new condition. I empathize with the agony of reassembling the Winchester Model 100. The attempt can truly test one's patience. I had given up on my last attempt a few months ago after disassembling the rifle. I took it to a local gunsmith who admitted it was a tough job for him, even after I provided him with parts drawings and a schematic. When I disassembled it again yesterday, I discovered that the gunsmith had forgotten to replace the small ejector pin in the bolt assembly! Fortunately, I could order online a replacement ejector pin for $2.95 from Nu-Line Guns, Inc. This time I will endeavor to reassemble my Winchester Model 100 on my own!

@@MilsurpGarage Absoutly correct. One of my nephews want's one of my M1 Garands and wants to mount a scope on it, he stated to me...I told him that is a big mistake. He has a Ruger scoped .270 Winchester rifle and a Savage scoped rifle in 7mm Remington mag. I advised this is a battle rifle and the sights are very very good, don't do it. In war you need something that won't break...and again in the woods, with the M1 Garand you can acquire the target quickly too and should be able to him man sized targets at 300-400 yards in the open fields. I did improve one of my Grands by installing a target front sight. Therefore you have two open aperatures. This improves accuracy, due to there is no vision blockages especially at long range. Just center the target inside both aperatures and fire.
