Used your code for Realistic (great snap caps) and got the 10% off. Didn’t get free shipping but because of your code shipping was only .10c So that’s cool anyways. Love the channel. I have Riesling .22 you did a review on which was cool. Neat little gun. God Bless!

The shipping rate changed years ago but still a great deal. Love those snap caps. Thanks for tuning in.

Yeah, thanks for the concern. I put up a community post on new years…..basically got a cough that turned into a mild pneumonia….like tons of others. Problem for the KZbin stuff was it took my voice, I mean totally. Even halfway back who wants to listen to that? Anyway, voice is back 95% and I cleaned up the Milsurp Garage studio and I’m researching the next installment. Stay tuned! Thanks again for caring.

I am soooo glad I found this video! Always was interested in this rifle and now know they made a Model 62 in .30 Carbine!!!! Love the old Marlin line-up. I remember my Winchester model 250 having a short throw as well. I bet Bendell and Neal? were lawyers.

I have 3 of them. You shouldn’t have had any problems. My dad was made to trade one of his beagle rabbit dogs for a model 17 when he was mid teens around 1950. The 17 was well used with a bent magazine tube and a chunk out of the stock. He didn’t like the deal but had to take it. Kids didn’t get choices back then. He came to love the gun because it worked flawlessly - and, she still does till this day. I ran up on a very nice 1st year low serial no model 17 98+ % NRA about 20 years back and got it for nearly nothing. After that, I bought one sight unseen for parts. To my surprise, all she needed was a little furniture. The stock and forearm was busted up bad. I had a fella rough cut both stock and forearm out of very nice figured claro walnut. My choice of shotguns is the Remington model 870 Wingmaster (not the sub par 870s that came after. This has to be clarified for younger folks who think an 870 is an 870). All that to say this. The 17 isn’t nearly as smooth as the 870 Wingmaster. But, she’s a close second. I don’t believe that comparing a mossberg 500 Win model 12 to it comes close. I’ve shot all those guns over the years. Anyway, before we have to do a sequel episode, I’ll mention that the Ithaca 37 is still in production. ithacagun.com/product/model-37-featherlight/ Even better, the Browning BPS is the REM model 17/ Ithica 37 with double slides. I have the Browning BPS Special Field in 20ga. Besides the double slides, the BPS is chambered in 3” mag. For all practical purposes, it’s the same gun. I personally still prefer the model 17. In fairness, I’ve not shot the model 37s. Maybe one day I’ll get hold of one. I enjoyed your video and the info you dug up. Good luck with your little 17. I hope it was just the shells. You get her shooting right, you’ll be glad you did.

@ I’d forgotten about those! My Wingmasters are left handed. I was forever getting my eyes filled with powder while shooting the Rem mod. 1100. Bought a well used Wingmaster LH from a gun show when I was 16. Have shot it a lot now for 40 years. Still has another lifetime in it. Being a lefty, I get along well with the bottom ejection of the mod 17 & Browning BPS. The BPS has an ambidextrous safety on the receiver. I wish it had the cross bolt like the mod 17 & Ithica 37. I’ve not taken the 17 & BPS apart to compare them. That would be interesting. I have Rem mod 11 & Browning A5s. I believe you mentioned doing a comparison vid of these? Would be a good one for sure.

My very first firearm, purchased six months after graduating from college. I absolutely love it and it ranks high in my collection which now includes several 9 mm and a beautiful 1911 Mk4 70 series. It's also a practical gun if you keep chickens and need to dispose of the raccoons and possums that I trap.

👍. I don't understand the Beretta company's policy. It's a very good, simple, reliable pistol. And a good iron pistol. Why was it necessary to stop producing it to this day? It would be better not to stop. It would always find its buyer. Among the market of semi-plastic devices. It would be a success.

If anyone is interested in a little history: In 1973, Leonard Peltier had just killed two FBI Agents. The Custer County Courthouse was looted and burned and the Village of Wounded Knee was razed, burned and the museum looted. My Dad was an FFL wholesaler. Mr. Ruger personally sent him 18 of the first Mini 14 rifles ever released. He sent each with two 30 round mags. My Dad sold 17 of them to the SD Highway Patrol. He kept one. I have it That rifle has a serial number well under 500. My Dad carried it in the trunk of his Buick 225 for decades.

They should have made it short stoke piston like the M14 or M1 Carbine. By using the system that incorporates a gas chamber on a large piece of steel that’s attached to the op rod it limits the barrel diameter you can use behind the gas system. Not a fan of having a large piece of metal creating a heavy reciprocating mass on the op rod. All the minis I’ve had have exhibited about 3-4 MOA accuracy. A heavier profile behind the gas system would certainly help improve accuracy. The .223 vs 5.56 difference is chamber dimensions. 5.56 has a longer lead. Military contract ammo is loaded to pressures for the 5.56 chamber. It will generate higher pressures in .223 chamber. Doesn’t mean you can’t fire it but it will have higher pressures.

How is parts availability for the “Heavy Duck” Model 12? I’m torn between getting a Standard Model 12 and “Heavy Duck”. Will be using for Trap and will be using 2 3/4 shells. Does being a heavier robust gun make it more durable?

This was my first rifle, given to me by my grandfather about 35 years ago or so. Doesn't have the original magazine, but does have a quality 10 round aftermarket from the early 90s. It's topped with a Mossberg M4C 4x scope in a Weaver .22 Tip-off mount. I used to pick off small birds in flight with the iron sights as a kid, though now my reflexes are starting to dull. It remains to this day one of my best shooting .22 rifles I've ever owned, and I don't recall ever getting a jam in it. Never shot shorts or longs out of it though, only HV 22LR.
