You should not be able to pull the trigger unless you are squeezing on the loading lever. That is part of the safety block mechanism.

I don't personally own a Winchester rifle. I'd love to find an old one that I could afford, but all the ones I've looked at are over priced in my opinion. I do have my old 1970 Marlin 30-30 that I really enjoy and I have a couple of Rossi R92 that I enjoy as well, but not a Winchester though. Thanks for sharing.

Your rifle is too tight. I would venture to say the gunsmith that you used is not super familiar with Winchesters. It should be much looser. It should be almost as smooth as your marlin.
