Australia going to nuclear power is a joke. You are being had, it is a LNP diversion from the fact that they have no net zero or energy policy, they didn't have one when they were in office for 10 years and they don't have one now. Nuclear is not economically feasible and it will take 20 years to build in Australia, what do we do in the meantime? The world nuclear association admits that renewables make nuclear and coal unprofitable by substantially decreasing their capacity factors and thereby increasing LCOEs for baseload generators, recently European nuclear generators were paying to produce power, this is an illustration of this capacity factor degradation in progress. Gencost shows even with transmission and storage renewables are the cheapest, there is no better analysis of the Australian grid. Renewables will be a fraction of the price by the time any nuclear can be built, solar cells reduce in cost by 10% per year and wind and storage costs are also falling. So nuclear built now is competing with tomorrows even cheaper renewables. Sticking with fossil fuels is not an option either. Fossil fuels prices are volatile as we saw with gas and renewables are cheaper in any case. Border adjustment tariffs are coming and if we stick with fossil fuels our exports will be taxed

@KayveePlays7 ай бұрын
The... That's not how it works. It's less taking the energy as it is turning a very large wheel that then turns another smaller wheel around a set of magnets generating electricity. I would personally want to go for an environmentally friendly version of the advanced spiral turbines in the water with reefs around their bases and using non toxic materials.
@FranksHairSalon7 ай бұрын
@@KayveePlays Who says there can't be a combination of technology for renewable energy use? Sounds like a great idea.
@KayveePlays7 ай бұрын
@@FranksHairSalon well you'll never satisfy everyone. My above comment was to solve the problems people had with the turbines. If I had to choose a major power source to go for it would 100% be fusion. Even though currently it isn't commercially viable we have achieved enough energy to sustain themselves for a second or two. In about 20 years I'd give it, We'll be able to supplement a very small portion ( around 0.5% of the grid) to fusion another 10-20 years after that and it'll be a quarter of our power generation. With smaller models being created as we go. But for traditional renewables I'd still say improving solar cells. Using plants as blueprints and research points for how they collect their energy.

I think that still using coal fired facilities around Australia, and more solar panels, we could have the best of both elements working for us, and forget about Nuclear Power and wind farms for the time being.

This is not correct Sky News. I reside in Texas where we have over 15,000 giant wind turbines and more going up every day. Besides the roads that are built to reach them and their tiny footprint, nothing is lost. We have them, along with thousands of oil wells, literally everywhere; like ranches, farms,in the middle of roads with lanes driving around them. We have them relatively near residential areas and some small towns have their own towers to make them power. Sky news, you guys need to give wind energy a break; especially for a country that has so much unused land. The farmers want the wind turbines to supplement their incomes, as they can either receive a direct sell for the land or a continuous lease payment.
