how long did this machine run until end of life? i guess 4 weeks max.

It ran for months before being hit by lightning which fried the generator. We will be running it again as soon as the replacement generator arrives. We expect it to last at least 20 years.

So, how many watts is it generating? RPM means nothing. This video is useless without the important details.

fully support. I have tried to find some real field tests with current + power generation, and one can find many for horizonal axis turbines, but once one looks for vertical - it is close to 0 power generated even at high speeds It seems vertical turbines give too less torque and stop rotating at load connection.

The model 3.1 produces 50kW at rated wind speeds of 12m/s. Model 4.0 will produce 70 kW at that wind speed. You can find the power performance curves and specifications here - windharvest.com/blog/2022/10/14/wind-harvester-specifications-released/

Are the blades composite or aluminum

Sorry we missed this question earlier - the blades are aircraft aluminum, so they are very durable and recyclable at the end of their fatigue life.

@@MrSummitville, could you explain your 'umm', please. Power is proportional to S*(v^3) so...

The energy in the wind is the cube of the wind speed. A turbine produces very little energy in a low wind resource. One would need a much higher solidity (area of the blades to the area of the rotor) to make use of a low wind resource but that reduces the efficiency in the higher wind speeds where the energy is enormously higher. We are producing utility scale wind turbines for the best, windiest wind farms in the world. We will leave the low wind speed resources to the Savonious type wind turbines that won’t likely be economical for their owners. There is too little energy in low wind speeds given the cube law.

There is very little energy in wind speeds of 3m/s. The energy in the wind is the cube of the wind speed. The negatives of trying to operate in super low wind speeds are problematic because the wind fluctuates and the turbine will go in and out of generation. The metric to use is annual energy output. Wind Harvesters will produce 3000 MWh per year per MW installed in a 7m/s wind resource. That is 1.5X the energy output of solar panels per MW.

Build that 100m tall

Putting a relatively small turbine like ours (70kW) on a tall turbine doesn’t make much economic sense. Why not put a large turbine on a tall tower which would be significantly cheaper. Our turbines are designed for turbulent wind and locations where traditional turbines cannot go.
