I enjoyed watching your installation of the wind turbine. Just a few months away from 70 I’m starting to research solar. Just purchased an eco flow generator and solar panels. Impressed with the knowledge you have on solar and installing the systems. Keep up the great work.

I installed 17000 watts solar, 4 forklift batteries, a hurricane windpower 1500 watt turbine, 4 inverters, 4 charge controllers, a dc generator, and all the parts to bring everything together, we have been offgrid and powering everything for 7 years now, and advice i can give is, install a couple of car stereo capacitors, because they help with fridges, and motors turning on, they help keep your loads from dropping voltage when they start up, and helps your inverters from being starved of power. Early on i had an inverter burn mosfets because i had two fridges on it, and the inverter was sized right and could handle it, but at one point the two fridges kicked on at exactly same time and drawed power down and the inverter didnt like it, and burnt 3 mosfets on the board, after some research and time, i took apart the inverter and installed new mosfet board, and installed two capacitors, since then i havent had an issue. I learned from a old technician, said helps keep system stabilized.

18:39 Capacitors keep their charge especially Electrolytic Capacitors but if well designed they have bleed resistor across the high value Electrolytic Capacitors to drain that charge, some people have changed the generator side of that wind turbine for a deeper generator producing more power, other people have put longer blade's on that unit, for the price its quite good, I would have a dump load heating water, like an emersion heater in a hot water cylinder,

We’d love to use a passive water heater system like that but TBH we haven’t even maxed out the capacity of the turbine yet. It’s def helped on the cloudy, windy days but we’ve yet to be full capacity on batteries and getting wind power. Def a cool idea though!

I am glad to see. I am not the only one that used automotive grade 8 bolts because mine was only rated to be able to be in 90 mile an hour winds for short period of time when I only had it up in 50 mile an hour wins the bolts that came with mine snapped so I put grade 8 bolts and now I don’t even have to take it down at alland I get wins up to 150 miles an hour

I thought for sure that box was going to be a mini split. 😂🤷‍♂ A pleasant surprise as I have always been interested in the turbines and unfortunately they usually fall short of expectations. Technology advances quickly as it always is with solar, so hopefully this works as intended. I would love a turbine but worry about the many birds in my area. For those distributors watching I would recommend you send this channel a solar mini split and an EG4 6000k inverter to review. Both of these items are very much in demand for us viewers. The 6000k would replace and combine a lot of what they have and be more efficient. The mini split would give them basically free heat and cool air during daylight hours. Great review and very much looking forward to the results to come! 👍🏻

Thanks! We are excited to see what power the turbine will put out. Just need the wind to pick up now. lol Thanks for the plug! We’d love to partner with a company for a mini split! 🤞🏼 Thanks for watching!

It will be interesting to see what it produces. Haven't seen a posting so far that says they produce what is claimed. My research has shown it's not feasible compared to purchasing more batteries and panels. Not being negative. Hopefully your results are better.

I noticed in your other video the four solar panels were being shaded by your antenna booster and now I see the wind turbine also in front of the panels. Are you still getting good output out of them with all the shading?
@KaitlynandPatrick
@KaitlynandPatrick 4 ай бұрын
We’re actually getting great output from them! I was a little worried about it too but on sunny days we actually max out the panels’ output. That may not be their permanent home either, we’re likely going to have to move them when we build a house because they’ll be fully shaded by the roof line.

Wind turbines should not be attached to structures due to vibration. Horizontal axis wind turbines should be installed at least 20' above the nearest object within about a 200' radius. Where I live in unincorporated California, the county allows turbines to be installed without permitting if below 35'. You should check with your county. I saw another comment indicating to expect less than the manufacturer's rated output. From other reports I've read, you can expect it to be about half of their ratings if installed within the parameters I've listed above. Given the height of the trees I noticed in your video, you would need a much taller tower that would probably be needed to be guyed and permitted which would likely be cost prohibitive. Good luck!
@KaitlynandPatrick
@KaitlynandPatrick 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! We installed it in the most feasible place, the cable provided was only 25ft so it limited us. We don’t have many requirements in our county regarding permitting, you can just about do anything around here without issue. You’re absolutely right about the trees, the mill hasn’t operated at all since the trees leafed out, which wasn’t unexpected. We get less sun in the winter, which is when the winds can pass through more easily, so the little bit of power we do get from the mill is in the most needed season. We appreciate the insight and thanks for watching!

Hi I also have solar panels installed installed to mppt then to the lynx distributor, concerning the wind turbine does it work when you connect the load of the wind controller to the lynx distributor? does it charge the batteries i mean? thanks would it be possible to have a simple drawing of your whole system thanks
@KaitlynandPatrick
@KaitlynandPatrick 4 ай бұрын
Yep, ours is connected to the lynx distributor and it does charge the same as the solar inputs. I don’t have a drawing per se but all of our systems basically go energy producer (e.g., solar panel) -> charge controller -> lynx distributor -> battery -> inverter.

@@KaitlynandPatrick Thanks for help, do you have a Cerbo GX to know if the amp from the wind is getting inside the batteries? is the output from the wind plugged on a lynx distributor or a lynx power in?
@KaitlynandPatrick
@KaitlynandPatrick 4 ай бұрын
No problem! The mill is wired to the Lynx distributor. We have the victron smart battery monitor that we use to monitor volts, amps, etc. It shows all volts, amps, etc coming from the panels and the mill so we have to do a little math to find just the voltage and amps coming from the mill itself. Both of our charge controllers are Bluetooth enabled so know exactly what each one is brining in at any given time.

I know it has been days since you put up the wind mill but I did not see you put in a pin for the flange to pole, that flange can and probably will unscrew from the pole, drill it and pin it, I am taking this idea for my place, Thanks!

And I would like to recommend a PVC pipe sleeve from top to bottom because what you are using my dear is at least what it looks like since it’s made out of steel and it rust that is gas pipe cast steel gas pipe so besides grounding it I would recommend putting a sleeve on it because yeah, you may ground it and once it gets struck by lightning, you gotta replace that windmill Putting a sleeve on that rod will make it so you have a less of a chance of it getting struck by lightning

You may get some power there. Needs to be above the trees or you just get dirty wind. Hope your wind is better than mine. Good luck with it. Let us know how it does.
@KaitlynandPatrick
@KaitlynandPatrick 7 ай бұрын
Yes the higher the better but for us to get it above the trees would be over 50ft. Seems to be working great! We don’t count on it to gain power everyday but we do get a lot of wind here so any input of power is a win in our book. Thanks for watching!

Hi you guys, what's the noise production/levels from it?
@KaitlynandPatrick
@KaitlynandPatrick 3 ай бұрын
The fan itself doesn’t make ‘too’ much noise (just a little whistle when it’s catching good wind) but when the mill is cranking the vibration does make some noise inside the office. No more than a box fan on its lowest setting though, and not all the time (just when it’s really running).

You should move the dump resister away from electronics. It is a heater. I'd get a 2nd one installed outside when it's hot. The original I'd mount below the window. Then a switch to manually control which dump resister is used.
@KaitlynandPatrick
@KaitlynandPatrick 3 ай бұрын
We actually thought about this, we had some options of where to move it if it ever felt warm but we’ve never even gotten to full power output, let alone enough to need the dump resistor. If we do these suggestions are great, so thank you!

Great video have the same problem you do don't weld so does the flange twist on, and what length pipe did you use to put the T in between? My wind and solar is on the way from ecoworthy.
@KaitlynandPatrick
@KaitlynandPatrick 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! We used 10’ gas pipe on both sides of the T connector and the floor gas flange on top to connect the windmill. We did have to drill the holes out slightly on the floor flange to make it work with the holes on the wind mill. Good luck with your install!

Hi again got my solar and wind turbine from ecoworthy have another question did the wire and the wing nuts come with the green dumploader or did you have to buy your own nothing came in my box to hook it up to hybrid controller if you got what size wire did you use everything is going well in putting together made a cart on rollers for Solar putting controls in box on cart so I can move use for 2 sheds and garage backup for house Thanks Again
@KaitlynandPatrick
@KaitlynandPatrick 5 ай бұрын
Hi Mary, the wires and nuts did not come with the unit. We used 8awg wire to go from the controller to the batteries and we used some left over 12/2 black wires for the dumb load wires. However, the size of yours wires will depend on your system. We have a 24v system. Glad to hear your setup is going well!
