To build a true horizontal axis wind turbine (like Hugh Piggott's design), one needs the skill to work with wood to create a beautiful blade. Unfortunately, I lacked this skill.
Thanks to aluminum casting, I can now do it relatively easily.
The advantage of an aluminum blade is that it doesn't require annual painting, unlike a wooden one. And if, by misfortune, it breaks, I can have it melted down to make a new one.
However, at 3 kg, it's six times heavier than a wooden blade. It takes more time to spin up, but its weight contributes to inertia and stability. Static balancing is easy to achieve, but I couldn't manage dynamic balancing.
To progress further, I'll need to design a special aluminum blade because this metal has its own constraints that are different from wood.
