My mom and aunts grew up the street off Neptune couple houses from Dr. Suess. The Foley sisters, Gail, Charlotte and Judy. They went to La Jolla High in the 50’s and 60’s and their favorite place to hang was Windansea. What a time to live, never again, that was pure man. Now we are left with the scraps, the vapors of the golden age of surfing in CA. And I grew up in North County and graduated from Carlsbad High in 88’, had my share of great times and waves, but I’d trade it without question to have lived the 60’s in La Jolla.

Yeah! I was down at Windansea 2 weeks ago for Buzz Sipes paddle-out. Course I didn't paddle out! I'm writing a lawyer novel now dealing with a dysfunctional rich family in the Village--which family, you ask?--too many to chose from!

One of the coolest places to grow up! 1961 - 1980 and I still visit family there...although now all the family shops are gone and tourists are more then plentiful it still is a beautiful place :) Great memories...thank you for sharing :)

I was one of those Kooks out there fetching the leftovers. I was always respectful of the locals, so I didn't get into too much trouble -- after awhile they recognize you as someone who is respectful and they'll throw you an occasional bone. It was a great place to be a teenager in the 70's.

Thanks for sharing this Jim. Really brings back memories. I woke up this morning dreaming about Windansea and Jon Serratt (who I haven't seen since 70's Kauai) and find your film. Sabrina (Osment) Berry

This is really cool. Do you have Any footage of Barry Greenslate ? He was there. He ended up loosing one of his legs above the knee a few years back and misses surfing deeply. He would be stoked if you had any footage of him. Not sure.

I was there HaHa...What great times.. Seems like yesterday that I was waxing up my 6'8" Infinity winged pin (single fin), heart pounding out of my chest, getting ready to paddle out at 6'-8' Big Rock. Great video

Classic Soul Arch from Big Rock legend Joe Roper. It's nice to see what it all looked like back then. One thing I notice is the amount of sand that those beaches have lost. Boomers is all smooth, slippery boulders, these days. I realize that you lost a spot... but it's a pretty funky wave - even for bodysurfing. On a shortboard it makes 0 sense. It is nice to have a couple of bodysurfing "preserves", in California where you can practice the art without having to compete in a board riders arms race...

There's sand at boomers in this film, because it was shot during the summer. During the winter with the north swells, there's rocks.

It's nice to hear you know the truth about Boomers, I went to the city counsel meeting trying to fight the new law, but in the end, they only listened to the local bodysurfing "lifeguards" Thanks for the cool video!
