What a lot of people forget is that most roguelite games even Dead Cells started out as being quite bare bones in terms of what they may be today. I mean look at Binding of Isaac, Rogue Legacy 2, and even the more recent Rogue Prince of Persia. I’m by no means saying this will turn out as good as Dead Cells. But knowing who’s behind it and the effort they put into Dead Cells. I’m quite confident this is gonna be a big game. Just give it time and let it bake a little before grabbing the pitchforks
@travistotle3 ай бұрын
It's kind of ironic you say that, as one of the biggest reasons Dead Cells progressed into the game it is today is actually due to Evil Empire, the team that took over development from Motion Twin. The core Motion Twin team that actually created Dead Cells is long gone. I'm not saying the game will be bad. But hoping the game will grow like Dead Cells did is a tough prediction, since both the team that created it and the team that continued development on it have nothing to do with this game.
@geoffpolk3 ай бұрын
yeah. I was thinking that same thing too as I was typing. Which is one of the reasons why I said it possibly won’t be as good as Dead Cells. Evil Empire did a lot for them. It’ll be interesting to see if they can pull off the same thing by without them. Hoping it goes really well. The demo had a ton of potential. But they are also filling some huge shoes. It’s very likely going to be a roll of the dice
@travistotle3 ай бұрын
@@geoffpolk Yeah, there's tons and tons of people in the Dead Cells community who've completely written off Motion Twin because they forced Evil Empire to end development. Personally, I think it sucks, but if Windblown actually turns out to be great I'll be excited about it. One more great roguelike on the market is a good thing in my book!
@geoffpolk3 ай бұрын
@@travistotle I’ve noticed that. I’m the same way. Yeah it was messed up the way they ended things. But Evil Empire moved on and they’ve got a great thing with Prince of Persia. So I’m just going to hope the best for Windblown and see what happens. Oh absolutely it is. The ingredients are all there. We’ll just have to see if they can build this into something great

One thing I am very worried about is how dodging and enemies work together, while dead cells has a LOT going on in it, dodging it is reasonable and possible and easy to understand when something was done wrong. There's a lot going on at once like in dead cells, but it doesnt feel like any of it matters, it doesn't feel like you will consistently ever be able to play well, win every run and learn everything in a way it'd be real to do hitless runs

@Deoxippus3 ай бұрын
This. The demo is fun, and I am excited to play the early release, but there are definitely flaws. I see some obvious balance issues, but there is plenty of time to iron them out. The alter attack system seemed interesting at first, but ultimately I find myself taking one weapon for setup and another for payoff, which basically amounts to using a single weapon with a 2-button combo. With more weapon variety, that could easily change. I also don't think taking a gift, then taking a gift to make the first gift stronger amounts to a more varied build. It is basically taking the same thing twice. Still, seems like it has a lot of potential. Other than increased weapon/gift variety, the existence of shields, and obviously more levels, I don't think there is much in this video that isn't in the demo, so play the demo a few times to unlock things and see if you like it?

Even when you mentioned builds and synergies, you said that in windblown you made a build that revolved around freezing enemies and breaking the freeze, and in DC something like that cannot be done because the only synergy of ice is affixes that make weapons do more damage to frozen enemies... like, really??
