MASSIVE PATCH APRIL 2021 - Check it out here kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4K6e4Ckf7R9abs Patch 1 is out: So far I haven’t noticed a huge difference with this patch and the crashes are still there - in fact having purposely not gone through the last gate in fear that it would end the game permanently I thought I would bite the bullet. Rather than allowing you to continue it ends. If you press continue from the main screen it just loads the last save which is just before the end... I’m really annoyed as I had really spent LOADS of time in the world and my boat was on point, 2 masts, 3 or 4 decks and I want to carry on sailing... I’m gonna hit up the devs, but thought you might want to know. Advice: Until that first stability update make sure you MANUALLY SAVE often. This will avoid any frustration if you do get a crash particular just before you go through the teleporter. Key Info1: Survival Mode (restarts you from first chapter) or Story Mode (Just lose the stuff in your bag) Key Info 2: Currently has a few crashes but you can manually save at any point I haven’t died once playing the game I’m feeling pretty smug right now lol. Not the game I was expecting - but one I am really enjoying. Make sure you watch the performance section though as it currently has a few issues. Mark

Yup I’ll be picking it up now. While the visual issues aren’t ideal I was mostly holding off to make sure the performance wasn’t unpatchable or overly poor. As seems to be the case in games like this on Switch. It’s by Australian developers 5 Lives Studios, represent! I predict being less skilful and dying at least once if not more. You’re absolutely entitled to feel smug Mark!!

Me too, I’ve been playing BotW for almost three years now, and there’s still tonnes of stuff I still haven’t done, I haven’t even got the dlc yet or fought a Lynel (I’ve tried, it didn’t end well) but after hours of play I still can’t get over how beautiful it looks and I could spend hours just exploring Hyrule, I do wish there was at least one big city or town and more variety in the shrines, but apart from that I’m in love with the game, I’m hoping to have the core story complete by the time BotW2 comes out

I really hope that if they do take inspiration from botw they make it a better game than what Botw is I think botw is rather shallow but a lot good can come from the open world aspect just kinda not the entire throw away system and non-linear game play. I feel botw doesn't shine that much to me due to it not really having the minute details from many other zelda games when I do something in the overworld and it spawns a shrine I don't really get to happy about that I'd rahter it had been something else that happened. I feel like shrines are a cop out for being more creative with secrets and such. I just really wasn't a fan of that loop it just made me think there was nothing else. But there were cool things like castaway island and the huge Maze those were probably my favorite parts of the game because they were interesting dynamics the sad thing about castaway beach was that for beating it a shrine pops up and again I don't like how shrines are the reward for completing puzzles at points. Really I don't want more games like botw as far as shrines go a more geuine world that doesn't have shrines pop up for every answer would be cool something that does botw better would awesoem so I'm hoping botw 2 fixes all the gripes I have.

This review is fantastic. A lot of detail here of things I wanted to know about. The crashing issue is a big thing for me, and unfortunately I am going to probably wait for a patch till I buy. Otherwise, this game looks amazing, and it's certainly on my radar. Great stuff Mark.

This game is not what I expected. Was thinking similar game play style as The Tourist but having survival elements and Windwaker exploration. Was thinking you traverse to various islands on a boat you craft and find dudgeons or villages for supplies to survive. Those hard crashes though... Im keeping on my wishlist and hopes it gets better in time and who knows may go on sale

I was secretly hoping that this turned out to be good. I really need to clear that BOTW itch that had been bothering me for 2 years. Even if it doesn't play that way, it does aesthetically look and feel the same which is awesome. Awesome review as always. Will pick this one up.

Okay so it’s not exactly a BotW clone but you really need to pick up “A Short Hike”, it’s a really lovely game where you explore the island that you’re on, you play as a bird and the other islanders look like various other woodland creatures, the gameplay itself is really smooth and so addicting to play, you can even take a speed boat around various other parts to the island and there are quite a few quests. I’m still playing through BotW myself but it’s nice to change pace and go with something else that still has a bit of familiarity. I’ve only just started playing it myself but I can tell I’m going to have hours of fun with it. (Sorry for long comment)

This looks fantastic! I love the survival aspect, but if my time with BOtW has taught me anything, it's that no thing is deadlier to me than I am. I'm sure I would get halfway through this and accidentally fall off a cliff.

This reminds me of Abzu (by far one of my favorite games) quite a bit in how the narrative and mysterious story unfolds, the isolation, and even the graphics. Aside from the different setting, it really seems to be closer to Abzu than a Zelda game, with all kinds of great crafting and collecting resource mechanics that are perfectly and simply implemented. That to me is the main attraction. Exploring and uncovering the mystery alone with simple resource collecting and crafting to proceed. If you look it more Abzu, Journey, Flower type game, battle mechanics are not much of issue. It's adding a little challenge to get the more important resources you need.

Just shows what a massive triumph Breath of the Wild is. It takes a village to build a game like this. But this is an amazing start, and I might pick it up just for the support. Contentwise, might need an exp or a big patch, but it looks great for what it is!

wow i thought this is "just" a breath of the wild clone... the review made me curious, very likely i'm going to buy this... But if the developer would have used the switch as the lead platform, this would run A LOT better.. anyways don't get why studios with not super realistic graphics aren't doing that a lot. @SwitchUp Can you mention how many hours you played the games when you review them. In case of windbound it might make sense since you said is becomes repetetive but this highly depends on how long you have played it.

Great review. I had no idea it was more survival than rpg which is a nice surprise! I'm still not sure whether to get it on Switch or PC though. Leaning towards PC then get it for Switch when it goes on sale months from now.

I totally agree I love the game besides the crashes. I tend to laugh now if crashed and I forgot to save. For me this will turn into a franchise for sure. One thing I found is I tried to exit the game before I died to see if would keep my save point. It didn’t but keep the blue crystal (money). So restarted with $7000. The coral is beautiful too.

UPDATE: I put in a few hours last night. I like it, and while they still have a few kinks to work out I think it's a gem for 30 bucks. It's a bit like Rust, Wind Waker, and RiME all had a baby and its name is Windbound.

Did they manage to make sailing interessting? I know in some preview version there was nothing in the ocean: no enemys, no POIs - nothing. And sailing is a big part of the game. It looks like it really wants to be meassured with Zelda BotW and WW - but doesnt look like it can hold up.

I really like this game, but it crashes all the time! So much that I dont want to continue playing. Every once in a while I'll pick it back up and give it a chance but it still crashes. I can't get past chapter 4 because of this issue.

I bought this game a few days ago, and I never really got too much into survival games, but I love this game. I have been playing it in "easy mode" because it takes me time to get used to controls on games since I have so many I play and I'll forget what does what and jump when I meant to attack. I had my first death for that reason I tapped the parry button instead of dodge and got ran over by a boar while I was low on health after beating a deer that fights like a cat?

Too many haters on this game. This one had me going over time on my streaming because I was enjoying the challenge wanting to overcome before I die and get to the next part! Good game, lots to learn as you go. Just know that it’s a survival game, and don’t be expecting Zelda. It looks like a Zelda game. But that’s about it. No story and no puzzles. Just survival!
