I love the way you tell peoples story, highlight their talents, and expose their beauty, humanity and culture. I'm amazed at how you get them to interact so naturally with the camera in a way that creates an unusual intimacy for the viewer. You have a talent my friend. Stay safe.

Thanks yo so much! People seem a little shy at first, but then really open up. You should see how happy Peixe and his friends are about the video. Was hanging out with them a few nights ago and they were super happy, but in the most humble way. Wonderful folks!

Wow Alex ! you've certainly come along way since I first watched you sailing around Lake Geneva !! I have to agree with all the comments as your natural talent of mixing with people of all backgrounds is exemplary ! I'm sure being multilingual helps a little ! I'm writing this sat on my Nicholson 30 in Liverpool Marina....I bought her last year in Hamble (Southampton) & singlehanded her to Northern Ireland, Scotland & then Liverpool. I lived in the Canaries for 12 years from 1989-2001 & particularly enjoyed your recent videos as you sailed through the archipelago ! I have many improvements to make to my Yacht.....windvane, solar power, Bimini etc... but plan to head south until the butter melts in 2020 ! The world is relatively small and hope to catch up with you & Nat in some remote anchorage drinking obscene amounts of grog at some point in the future ! Fair Winds & Following Seas.

I am touched. And don't recognize by what exactly. Now I have a fantastic mix of warm feelings in my chest. Are you a magician, Alex? What have you done? Or just all these people are magic?
@WindedVoyage6 жыл бұрын
That is a very kind comment Eugene. Yes the people are magic. And I do try to capture that. It's too easy to capture sad and ugly. I've made it my objective to show the beauty and magic of people and places to balance all the negative stuff we are bombarded with. Than you Eugene.

Thanks for your comment Wayne. People here are wonderful! And I genuinely enjoy hanging out with them. Natacha had a negative view of Cape Verdians from France where they have a reputation of being rowdy. And she is awed by how kind and relaxed they are in reality. And yes... the music. It's a mix between African, Latin and Reggae. Great vibe!

Wow I loved the singing of the French girl, I think it was in Cabo verdian? Nothing beats the old school charm of these places in my opinion. Old word "Portumundo" style.
@WindedVoyage3 жыл бұрын
Ola JG. The French girl was singing in Spanish. Old school Cape Verdean music is called Morna. Look up Cesaria Evora singing "Sodad". A beautiful melancholic song about yearning for Cape Verde. You can hear more old school CV music in latter episodes.
@JG-ke7gj3 жыл бұрын
@@WindedVoyage Hi Winded, Sorry for my late reply to your fast reply :-) Thanks for the tips on music. Im definitely looking forward to more old school CV music! Im one of those who have dreamed about Cap Verde since many years back because of its unique culture and old world charm. I met Cap Verdians in Lisbon in the 80s/90s and I do speak Portuguese but I still couldn't make out clear what language the Spanish girl was singing in. An amazing adventure you are on and im looking forward to follow your journey :-)
@WindedVoyage3 жыл бұрын
@@JG-ke7gj I knew little about Cape Verde before I came. And since have been blown away by its culture. Just so you know, the Spanish girl is actually French. Parisian classically trained musician. Violin. Yet traveled to southern Spain and learned to play and sing there. She's one of those carefree hippie traveling girls. She reappears in a latter episode when we met up again in Santiago. Then she went off to Senegal I believe.
@JG-ke7gj3 жыл бұрын
@@WindedVoyage I have listened to cv music in the past and I kind of know they have a rich music scene. I didn't know the term Mornas though so I thank you for providing me with this key word for finding awesome music! Again in the 90s in Lisbon there was a private apartment where we would go after partying late, it was called Cachupa, after a Cabo verdian food that they also served there. I think that was some of my first contacts with CV apart from some sailors in bars. This French girl is unique and follows her own mind and destiny, im missing meeting people like that on travels. I will be looking out for her next appearance. Another dream destination of mine has been Sao Tome and Principe, I know that is a far way to sail though, if not that could be something to consider. Im curious where your travels will bring you.. Boa sorte!

I've laught hard with your 'caña' translation :) Yes, in Spain a 'caña' it's a beer, but it's just coloquial language. The 'caña' she was singing about it's actually reed, 'soy como la caña que nunca moriré': 'i'm like the reed that will never die'. Amazing place Mindelo, btw. Thumbs up and 'till next week!!

Africa is wonderful. I don’t know why so many are fleeing to Europe?
@WindedVoyage6 жыл бұрын
Exactly!!! We Europeans flee to hot chilled places, and they flee to the cold stressed north. But many come back. There is a big economic force in Cape Verde with nationals who build themselves nice places back on the islands for holidays, family and retirement. That being said, our friend Peixe has no desire to go North. He loves where he is and his country. That dude is stand up!
