So in-depth, and bite-sized enough for even those with short attention spans (not me, you could make a 4-hour vid and I'd watch). Excellent overview, as always. Two more secrets for you about Windslar (the countryside neighborhood): -There is a cluster of 3 large stones, and there's a soft blue-green glow in the midst of them at night. -On the road opposite the walkable cobblestone path at the large pond/lake, one can sometimes catch a glimpse of a cute little vfx event between a family of ducks, and a car.

It is the best world and largest. I swear the Dev team is just lazy not letting us have worlds that size, since we can only have sims active in one location at a time it really makes no difference how big it is.
@AMinibot3 жыл бұрын
I really doubt it's down to 'laziness' - with the way big games companies are known to organise their priorities, the far more likely scenario is people on the executive/profit-driven side of EA setting unrealistic deadlines that the devs can't meet to the standard customers are hoping for. And if that's the case, they shouldn't be expected to work themselves completely ragged in order to do the impossible. Like, sims 4 isn't just a low-effort looking game across the board. There are some mechanics that have clearly had a lot of work put into them, so I feel like the idea that devs would put loads of effort into a couple of bits and then just decide to be 'lazy' for other stuff doesn't make much sense. To me, that pattern seems more like being allowed time to put effort in on certain things and then company demands meaning that you're rushing to complete the rest.
@highfive76893 жыл бұрын
@@AMinibot I understand your point. Here's why I say this, in the last few years a few games have been released that are filled with bugs and incomplete segments of gameplay. Cyberpunk 2077 as an example. The Sims 4 when it was originally released was missing game elements when released ( I remember it quite well ), and now several expansion packs have had massive problems with them like "Dinning out". It's being noticed, but people purchase thinking its hot from the trailers and so forth, and promised patches to correct faulty programming and some "free" game items - some outrageously broken, or not working correctly. Now if you ask me, if Sims 4 is low effort game, I contend one only need to look at the prices for what you are getting in other games. See, how much A C origins and Odyssey provided in game play hours. Then how much you get in the same amount of Sims 4 gameplay. I have spent hundreds of dollars on this game, do I enjoy it.... I am a Builder and I keep creating and adding new packs, along with massive amounts of CC due to that creative element of the game. I could do Maya 3D, or Blender 2.9+ but relearning commands and structure with new update versions just isn't for me any more. But I do know how much time it takes to create 3D models. The real time consuming work is animation ( rigging ) and gameplay items. Since coding is expensive for gameplay items and activities, what we are getting is a lot of pretty fluff in background of these worlds that we really can't go and access. So why can't we have large worlds to build and create stories in, which is what everyone is really clambering for, because then the Fluff eats into profit. ( my opinion ) So I have to start taking the view of purchasing game updates more seriously. If Sims 4 purchased with all parts new will 1000.00 dollars soon. I like everyone else hopes it changes its direction and provides more.
@AMinibot3 жыл бұрын
@@highfive7689 I'd argue that the 'fluff' to gameplay ratio you're using is probably also not the end of the story? Like, there are reasons why those kinds of decisions are made, and the motivating factors behind said decisions just don't seem likely, imo, to stem ultimately from the devs deciding they don't want to put effort into something. If you know about this kind of work, I'd guess that you're aware that people don't tend to take jobs in games development because it's a well-paid, steady career, but because it's work they care about. The general culture of the industry has become toxic and built on exploitation, pressure, and overwork. I get what you're saying about what's been prioritised, but I disagree with the direction you're implying, as far as I can tell, that the blame for that lies in. I just don't see calling the people who do the actual development work of making a game 'lazy' as particularly helpful, because those are the people that the word 'devs' refers to. And even if you mean the people who oversee that development, they're still likely to be industry people who have some stake in the process beyond profit. I feel like the issue has always been further up the chain, on the corporate side, whose decisions affect and constrict the decisions that the people involved in actual gamemaking have to navigate, no matter what level of the making they're involved in. To my mind, calling the devs lazy lets the real corporate culprits off the hook, because it focuses on the people in the middle and, however inadvertently, glosses over the problems at the top of the chain that are an industry-wide issue, and that have a very real impact on the workers in the middle.
@highfive76893 жыл бұрын
@@AMinibot Well let's see, we need to discuss who is the real developer ( Devs )for this product line. Maxis needs to be recognized as the developer of this product and its future vision for it. Do you really think a "Production Manager" would be able to decide a product expansion design in any way without the studio actually having a roadmap and given an okay for the creation of any given type of pack? No - since they have to sign off on the money and assembly of the Team assets. Now its obvious that someone is not watching elements of that production team, it comes across through holes in quality control and lack luster results. Look at Bantuu, Dinning out and vacuum pack for example. But its also the Dev team's fault for not raising the red flags when things are not working right ( bunkbeds when first came out ) not doing so causes the Studio to lose money and EA becomes unhappy . EA probably assigns money according to how well the previous products have sold and Maxis may have smaller budgets if they do not meet expectations. Now do they ( people ) work hard - yes. They have to, but they are not the real developers. The graphic artists, the coders, the animations teams don't seem to communicate well in this studio. The trailers are great sellers and that is what sells the pack. Then we hear a month's worth of disappointments every where. What do is wrong with Maxis production model, do you have any insights? Where do you think its failing in delivering in expectations? My major pet peeve, quality control testing - not just with base game but the rest of the packs are not being done well before release. Later, Minibot.
@AMinibot3 жыл бұрын
@@highfive7689 I very much feel like all of this still comes down to time, given that there's evidence that that's been an issue from the very beginning. Looking at the timeline for Sims Olympus being converted into Sims 4, as was mandated by EA, it seems that the team was given about six months to switch the game from being set up for an online spin-off, to functioning as the next main installment in the franchise. That to me doesn't sound like a realistic demand, which is why I'm inclined to still believe that the main issue is too-tight time constraints being insisted on by overhead management; that's the policy the base game was founded on. EA appears to have a precedent for doing so, and a lot of other issues - such as how much time is available for quality testing - could easily stem from the same source if there's pressure being laid on people to meet unrealistic schedules. I've read accounts from developers on other corporate-owned titles who say that tight deadlines and crunch are the norm, and that also makes it the norm to assume the mindset that anything will have to be shipped with a certain amount of bugs, because there isn't enough time allowed to the team to test them all. And honestly the communication thing you bring up could well be an issue - I just take the mindset that there's not much point focusing in on smaller issues like that when to my eyes the whole structure looks kinda rotten to the core. Or at the very least, I don't see the point in talking mainly about who's at fault on that level, when there is evidence that the parent company is imposing demands that are likely to both create issues and compound any problems that might have existed anyway.

Ngl the estate, ruins, and bluffs feel like they're supposed to be hidden lots, but I guess the sims team realized most players might be unable to find them or they would just never know about those hidden lots at all (like what happened in the hidden lots from the previous worlds... maybe they're just too well hidden lol) so they decided to just put it on the map and stopped making hidden lots anymore
