I’m a long time “AK guy”; resisted getting an AR until this one came out. With the look and feel of my Vietnam-era M-16A1 that I carried during my military service (US Army infantry, 1984-88) but with modern performance features, the folks at WW enticed me into taking the plunge and joining the AR community just a few months ago. Glad I did; this is a very well made and astoundingly accurate rifle.

I searched far and wide and did my durnest to make the right choice , the one constant I kept hearing was Windham makes quality rifles. Mine is your twin. They shoot dead on , so much so that sometimes you think you've had flyers , until you realise same hole shots. I have 3 other Ar's and they are garbage compared to Windham . Windham 's are pricey. But those that know , know you get what you pay for. The fixed carry handle is so cool , especially on long hikes in the mountain , It's like carrying a small briefcase lol. I'd never sell the Windham , she shoots lights out open sights. I'd sell the other 3 in a heartbeat. The 1-7 twist is great too. Almost everything now days is 1-9 Peace.

Yes, WW is great company building mil-spec caliber weapons. The classic A1 is the weapon I carried when I served with a USMC infantry battalion - '80-'84. I love the A1 and IMHO, WW going with an A2 1/7 twist rate, got it completely wrong; the 1/12 right-hand twist rate coupled with the M193 FMJ cartridge were the defining features with this weapon and its legendary lethality, and its ability to vaporize tissue. This 'WW15" with its heavy profile 1/7" barrel is essentially an A2 with A1 aesthetics.

I have an A2 20 inch (not A1, like this one) Government upper from Windham but I only bought the upper. It's happily married to a DPMS lower that's one of the older DPMS lowers when they were still made in Huntsville Alabama. So far there is no talk of divorce. They both fit perfectly to each other, no slop at all.

This gun was right up my alley as I wanted the retro aesthetic but modern functionality. So I have an A1 looking gun but still have a faster twist rate, a more robust receiver, and a brass deflector from modern ARs. For that reason, I also installed a float tube to free float the barrel, a FSB mounted rail for a flashlight, a Timney single stage trigger, a Radion Raptor charging handle, a two point adjustable sling using the old Ranger style setup, and finally a carry handle mounted optic. Given everyone is running skyscraper mounts these days, it’s no longer even absurd height over bore. The end result is a retro aesthetic gun that has the functionality of a modern AR, which I like. The only thing I’ll probably change now is to swap out the barrel for a Faxon Gunner barrel and skeletonize the float tube, just to remove some weight off the end of the gun. I like the 1/7 twist rate, but to keep it aesthetically more like an A1, it needs a pencil barrel and pencil barrels are sufficiently durable nowadays to handle normal use. But that may be later after I wear out this barrel and need to swap it out.
@bradcampbell72533 жыл бұрын
My fave girl is an A1 upper with m4 16 in barrel, fixed handle of course and it sits on a KE Arms polymer lower. Nothing electronic on it. But my eyesight is not what it used to be. But I have simple effective weapon ready if needed. Until then, it will be my plinking partner.

I prefer the AR-15A4, fitted with a free float forearm. It’s accuracy with Mk262 ammunition and adaptability to sight and scope aiming solutions for short, mid, and long range targeting makes it quite versatile and appropriate for many shooting interests from hunting to Long-Range Service Rifle Competition. What’s problematic about the A1 for the most part is barely adequate sights, which only only have a battle sight zero function, meaning no mid range capability. At any rate, back around 1994, long after the A2 replaced the A1, the United States Army Marksmanship Unit adopted the A2 for Service Rifle Competition, which lead to knowledge of match conditioning the A2 to deliver sub MOA performance. At that point the AR truly became America’s Rifle because it was seen as capable as the ubiquitous bolt action rifle.
@davidgcalderone3 жыл бұрын
I must fight this myth till it ends. AR stands for only ARMALITE, so many forget about the AR-17 which was a shotgun. so was it an Armalite Rifle Shotgun? No, AR was the Fairchild abbreviation for the Armalite division of the Fairchild Corporation.
@FinalLugiaGuardian3 жыл бұрын
Question. Is it normal to have a little bit of play between the upper and lower receivers on these Windham guns? One of the employees at the shop that has WW15s in stock near me says that that's normal for the upper to wobble a little bit on the lower.
@SurvivorMetalMan2 жыл бұрын
Yes. All AR’s do it. It doesn’t effect the function at all.
@charlesludwig9173 Жыл бұрын
There may or may not be some wobble. Many years ago the Army Marksmanship Unit concluded from tests on the matter that some wobble had no effect on accuracy and thus wobble was no longer addressed in the match conditioning of Service Rifles for competition.

Oh and one other question. Can this be zeroed with 62 grain and 69 grain match ammo given its 1 in 7 twist even though it has an a1 rear sight? How would you zero the sights with heavier bullet weights? I apologize for the dumb sounding questions. But I just don't know.
