What steered me away from the franchise was just the lack in changes to the games over the years. Of course each game had their differences and it just overall lacked immersion with customization and limited event types. The changes were so subtle for me personally.

MXGP 3 was my favorite still is unfortunately my disc doesn’t work anymore, PRO was so painful it felt like it just wanted to limit you so bad the smallest bit of throttle made you crash. I didn’t play 2019 but got 2020 and it felt so plan and empty it was depressing just white screens with nothing to look at painful to see at night.

Great video for the discussion! It would be very interesting to compare sales numbers between games, and potentially also the Milestone team size if that's possible? It would help us undeestand better the decisions (or lack thereof) that were taken that affected the game quality. I'm guessing also that they had to release a certain number of games to fill their licence conditions? A lot of great questions for which I would love to see a follow up video from you :)

I feel all these games always lacked studio/dev feedback and game updates. They rarely fix things with updates, never new content, and you can't just leave feedback anywhere in a comment section about the games either. Right now is the best time for a Pro MX game.

In my opinion, MXGP 2021 was actually one of the better games in the series. But I agree with the trend. You are right about Supercross 3 being the peak, they copy pasted from there and downgraded with each new release. It seems the only effort they made was just to update tracks, and even those got worse over time. They didn't even bother to add new gear for each game. They literally just copied over the gear each year from SX3 and added maybe one or two new sets. That doesn't fly in a motocross game. The crux of this issue, however, is that Milestone stopped iterating their physics modeling and animations after SX3. Instead of making it better and more realistic each time and actually putting work into it, they got complacent and stopped putting effort in. It seems like these bigger studios are not willing to put in the effort to make a physics based motocross game like MX Sim or MX Bikes. They could even just study a game like Reflex and copy the design choices, but again, they decided to copy paste. Milestone games eventually became Madden.

Rainbow Stuidos is doing far better with Legends than Milestone in all their mx games. I wish they'd just back out of the mx/sx series and focus on other games. Hand over licensing to RS, and out more effort into other games.

I didn't know MXGP is under a new studio now. That's really exciting because every one Milestone made after 3 was terrible. Need new developers who have the talent required to make a fun MX game again. I really miss the days of Mx Reflex and what not when things just seemed to be more refined, I feel like every MXGP game is just slapped together and sloppily made without any passion or love behind the development. Those games all just feel so wrong to me.

SX3 is where they fell off. That game had terrible physics and a ton of bugs and glitches. The career was lame and I hated how they made you complete the boot camp race before each season. Compound in that game was also weak compared to SX2 compound.

What is everybody’s attraction/loyalty to the milestone Mx or Sx games? They robbed people blind twice a year for 6 - 7 years straight, with the later games being worse than the earlier games, as if that was even possible. Does anybody get entertainment out of a good challenge anymore? As many others have said, Arcade type physics are fine but they made the bikes in the game feel like a bubble wrapped kids toy. Using your own words, these games were dull, boring, and the developers were absolutely lazy and did nothing but copy and paste, got their marketing department going and sold us all a lie with all the new features and content that didn’t exist. The track editor was practically a joke, if you know then you know what I’m talking about. I’m sorry but milestone basically made the new player base believe that racing/riding dirtbikes isn’t difficult, that the airtime isn’t scary sometimes, oh and whoops? Those aren’t even the slightest challenge either haha Let’s get real, everybody needs to understand that if you bought all 13-14 games over the years, you spent over $750. That is OBSURD especially for such subpar games and yet people still defend it, that studio should be more than ashamed of what they did to their fan base.

I can agree that, the majority of the MX video-game community are extremely ungrateful and spoiled (me and you, included); but, you can’t consider certain Milestone MX games (i.e. Supercross 3) as valid "successors" towards the previous two titles. Even though, I mentioned Supercross 3 being the superior AMA SX game by Milestone; I have no opinion on the MXGP games, since I gave up on MXGP 3 for the most pettiest reason: NO SCROLLABLE NAME/NUMBERS ON YOUR OWN RIDER. No joke, that’s what made me give up on the MXGP games; at least, for the time being. Probably get the MXGP equivalent of SX3, when it comes to customization. And, hope the physics aren’t on-par with an anchor dragging down the seabead, like SX4. Also, I know the series have a lot of problems (some, due to terrible decision-making by Rainbow and/or THQ Nordic); but, I'll personally still love MX vs. ATV, mostly due to just messing around on it and not getting too uptight on the technical aspects of the games, other than physics and customization. That; and, admittedly, nostalgic reasons.

I personally loved MXGP 2021 MESX 5 & 6 weren’t bad. I cannot stand MX vs ATV Legends. It’s too much of an arcade game for me and has way too many micro transactions. Also the physics are weird as hell. MXGP was the superior MX game. Too many people are wrapped way up in Reflex. I’ve gone back and tried to play it and it’s horrible. The game was ahead of its time but MXGP nailed just about everything as close as you could. They took a couple steps back somewhere in the middle but by the time they made 2021 it was almost perfect. Yeah the whip and scrub animations are a tad weird but the rest of the game is awesome. I can’t say the same for Legends. Sure customization is pretty cool but there are a ton more gear choices in MXGP and MESX plus in MESX 6 you can download custom helmets that other people made. Yet people complained so much that by the time the contract was up, Milestone just walked away. They made a damn good game and people did nothing but shit on them. Sorry but I know why they left the contracts open even if they don’t outright say it and it’s absolutely sad that we won’t get to experience another one. Side note: another developer has picked up the contract for MXGP. Hopefully they can make it as good or better however I’m expecting growing pains like when Milestone started. They make other motorcycle games like the Isle of Man TT games and those look pretty sick but I’m curious as to how well they can do with the off-road side of things. MXGP>MXvs ATV

It should be automatically clear that, the former (MX vs. ATV) will always and will be an arcade-focused motocross game series. And, don’t pretend Milestone's MX games aren’t arcadey as well; regardless if you put the physics on the hardest "anti-fun police" setting. You’re not going to be the next Ricky Carmichael nor Tony Cairoli, in a video game; just because, you set the physics on the highest difficulty. Also, there are some advantages that Rainbow has against Milestone; and, that’s variety in vehicles and gameplay. Not everyone who plays MX vs. ATV wants to be a sweaty, MX-only, wannabe-RC, "did I just catch you having fun", try-hard. The free-roaming areas are more spacious, you can operate in other vehicles (even if, Rainbow severely neglects ATV and UTV loyalists), and do Freestyle (something, MX/SX elitists treat like a disease; screw those clowns). So, unless Milestone either makes the spiritual successor to Left Field Productions' MTX Mototrax or make an officially-licensed GNCC (an American rally-like series, where ATVs are still relevant to racing) game; I will continue to belittle the MX gaming community for continuing this stupid war between two (in a half) series' from two completely different studios in two completely different countries, that have absolutely have nothing in common other than racing dirt bikes and having terrible fanbases.
