I have large panes (24" x 63 1/4") of tempered glass. I would like to install them to maximize heat gain in a solar wood drier. I thought making a frame of 2" x 2" pressure-treated wood with two separate slots and 1/2" of air space between them. I would also like to minimize condensation. Is there a better way, for example, making one larger dado & putting some kind of spacer in between? Any ideas would be welcome.

Sounds like you are interested in creating an IGU (insulated glazing unit) which is generally not a DIY thing. I don't know exactly how to help you other than to say you need a spacer and a seal around the outside of the entire unit.
