VPN connection now working ok, but without VPN no more internet connection 😔

Sometimes it's because of corrupt DNS cache, open the command prompt as administrator run command ipconfig /flushdns reboot system and check if this helps restore internet access. In addition, you can switch to Google DNS to fix such problems. For some users uninstall the third-party VPN help as well.

it installs 40% then it says retry, how do i solve the issue?

There are several factors cause Windows update to fail, slow internet to corrupt update cache, lack of storage space are common. Ensure you are connected to stable internet.
