Thanks everyone for watching. This has been an epic experience and I'm really excited to share it with all of you. Make sure you watch for the final credit. With pandemic restrictions ending, I will soon face increasing external employment commitments. That means less time to explore technology and make videos. I'm looking for creative solutions to keep on making the channel great. The more this channel grows, the less of a problem those obstacles become. Helping just one new person to find this channel helps me massively. I will keep working hard on making better videos. Continuing to put my heart and soul into every experience. Most of all, thank you for watching and being here.

What a fantastic video. Like many other commenters here I've always wanted a Vaio UX and I absolutely loved getting to see you take one apart. Such impressive internal design from Sony and so cool to see one running Windows 11. Thanks for the excellent information, well-shot footage and well paced editing. My favourite shot was at 10:58 - that focus pull from the read light of the DVD drive to the Disk light on the UX as you prevail over the limitations and the installation starts. Bravo!

What are you talking about? They've made it very clear what your computer requires to run Windows 11. This isn't just about abandoning old hardware, it's about increasing the standard for device security and performance. It's not a surprise that computers only a few years old might not support Windows 11 as hardware manufacturers have no issues with shipping outdated hardware. Do we want our operating systems to be restrained because they have to support 32-bit for the sake of compatibility?

This kind of device is so cool, i dont understand why they wont make a modern version of it now. Like most of this device is already perfect, except for the outdated components. The mobile market already did a lot of the work for them, with cheap, small high-res displays, better batteries, more ram in smaller form factor, better processors and gpu, etc. This kind of device is definitely not superceeded by smartphones, its often handy to have a legitimate desktop PC capable of running desktop-only programs on hand, and using keyboard is another bonus. PS: if anyone knows of high-quality modern devices like these, please let me know. I'd love this kind of slide-out keyboard on up-to-date device. I think the closest thing we have today is Steam Deck (runs Linux natively, but supports installing Windows), but its kind of more a console than a portable computer (lacks a built-in keyboard, has controler-like inputs)

I bought my Vaio UX in 2006, mine was the sexier Japanese version I had imported directly from Japan. It cost a fortune as far as I recall at the time. It was an excellent little machine for running XP, it was by far the most versatile and powerful pocket pc ever, and my eyes were far better back then. I took it with me everywhere and carried a spare battery as its runtime was fairly short. I used it to run music, browsing and even 3ds Max at work as a second pc through an external monitor with mouse and keyboard via the docking station. Yes, it could fling 500,000 poly scenes around with no problems. It really was a gem.

It came with a nice belt pouch too which was very handy when out and about. The price was ridiculous of course, I think I paid over $2500 all told for my UX90 plus accessories. The tech was amazing though. SSD, fingerprint reader, backlit keys, touchscreen, size, ports, expandability. Even mobile tv, though not compatible with US stuff. Many regarded it as an expensive toy, It was anything but. I used it as a very reliable workhorse for a good few years and it went everywhere with me. I used to remote desktop my home and work PC's into it to keep track of what they were doing while out, and to run programs I didn't keep on the little Sony. It was a marvel of engineering at the time and everyone who saw it was gobsmacked. It's funny that you can now get something just as small, with far better specs for about $200 knocked out by some Chinese company, though not nearly as sexy 😄

I just discovered your channel thanks to this video popping up in the algorithm. I liked and subscribed. I started to comment and suggest Tiny 11 might be worthwhile to try but I had the good sense to put this in mini-screen mode and check out the rest of your channel. It turns out you've already done that. I'll watch it in about an hour after this week's rerun of "Star Trek: TOS". I wish they'd use this form factor for an Xperia Phone with a Samsung DEX-like desktop skin over Android that supports proper multitasking and windowed apps. They'd sell dozens; which is why they'll never do it. I'd buy one though.

12:50 Windows 11 is still NT tho. Too many people put out the misconception that Windows NT was solely the name of the OS, and not an OS named after its platform it would then grow from Minor knit pick but it just might confuse younger people on the naming conventions of Windows overtime

Thanks, I do work hard to give a general and accurate perspective. It's hard because we all learn from our different perspectives, and we don't realise how that can influence us sometimes. I really appreciate you offering this small but important correction.

@@JanusCycle I'm sorry I did feel like a total "acktually" guy, but I have found myself time to time explaining to people who wind up confused looking for "Windows NT" and find say Windows 2000 or XP, and then ya gotta get into the hole discussion of Windows versions explaining it all to em

dude, fantastic video. don't sweat the thermal paste; non-engineers get too worked up. it's only supposed to fill the non-contacting surfaces, not the whole blinking plate. I'd have just gone with the dried paste left on the heatsink; thermal coefficient more than good enough.

6 screws to take out , the 4 you pointed out plus one in the battery compartment and another hidden behind a small cover on the back that is only exposed when you remove the stylus . I found one of these on a Japanese's auction site , bought it only to find that it has Vista home so i can not change the language . Looking into changing the hard drive to SSD but need an adapter . Most sellers are not shipping to Ukraine because of the war otherwise i think it would be a simple case of cloning a system to an SSD and using an adapter. Mine has a conventional hard drive , not an SSD model , a spinny HDD that is easy to get to without removing the main components , Toshiba HDD

re 0:25 'geez doc; you built a windows 11 PC out of a vaio?' ;) very nice vid. I do like that you managed to bypass all the roadblocks with CMD lines etc - very tricky. If you were going for the FULL visceroul experience on the cd drive; you could have used it to eat lasagne (?) off afterward.. (thinking that was the one.. ie restoring the floppy) Nice to see some old medium spinup tho.. reminicing about old burning days.. that media sure outdated fast ('this space reserved for laserdiscs')

Partition the SSD out for multi-boot and have a partition for XP x64, Windows 8.1, Android, and even dare I say Emulation?!?! The levels of nostalgia may just break the internet.
