In this video we're looking at the next Beta 2.1 build of Windows 98 under the codename Memphis. Build 1619 was compiled on October 27, 1997. Before the setup, set the BIOS date to 10/28/1997. Build's expiration date: August 24, 1998.
This build reverts to the Windows 95-style Explorer view, as the web view is now disabled by default.
NetMeeting is no longer in beta.
ODBC is now installed starting with this build.
The "Internet" and "Regional Settings" Control Panel applets received their final icons.
Note that if you encounter an error in MSGSRV32 during the 2nd or 3rd stage of Setup, restart the computer in Safe Mode and remove the no-named network drivers in the Device Manager. Then restart the machine and Setup will finish normally.
More details of this issue can be seen here: bit.ly/msgsrv3...
P.S. I had to do a clean installation of this build because the attempt of upgrading was failed because I didn't know the solution of the error before.
P.P.S. The "Microsoft" string in the Computer section of System Properties, initially introduced in build 1569 has been removed temporarily, only to be added again in build 1633 and removed permanently in build 1720.
