You should connect the Sound Blaster's output to the onboard audio's line input, so then it will come out of the Compaq's built-in speaker, which sounds much better than those tiny monitor speakers.

emulation does work very well with DOS games right now with things like dosbox, but real hardware is WAY better when it comes to sound cards. Bochs i've never used before actually.

i should. i'd get the bass back for sure. i'm thinking a better sound card than that is in order before that happens though. i'm wondering if a sound blaster live or turtle beach montego would be any more compatable with the DOS stuff. time to experiment!

I love vintage SFF machines! If I had as much space as you have, I'd probably have a few of these boxes around for experimental purposes. (Come to think of it, I do have a Gateway E-3200 SFF with a PII 350 that I haven't seen that in ages...)

epic pinball works fine on my 95 gaming PC, the ISA sound card helps. I have to find the full version of epic pinball, I only have the shareware version (I lost my original copy)

It sounds like that PC Speaker is only capable of producing 8 bit sound. Although i may be wrong on that. To be honest, it really doesn't sound bad on Oregon Trail, although i haven't heard it on a different speaker, so I don't know the difference.

i hum like that a lot when i'm doing computer work :P. i'm probably going to replace the sound card with something better. i'll have to see if a sound blaster live or a turtle beach montego (aureal vortex 2) is any more compatible with the DOS stuff.
