Compaq Presario and Windows 98

I got an original compaq quick restore disk with this presario 1230 laptop, so I thought it would be fun to see the first boot and (especially) the registration introduction screen. specs are in video.

I just dismembered my old 1600s Compaq Presario for its hard drive. Chose to do so because most of its components (CD ROM, built-in mouse buttons, USB ports, even the display wouldn't stay on unless kept open at an impossible to read angle) were falling apart and I wasn't using it anymore. Safe to say, that old guy served its time and will forever be remembered as my very beginning in the IT world ❤

I found one of the 1230s at a thrift store for $7. It has Windows 95 (WTF?). The screen was completely blown. I plugged in an external video cable. Presto! Got the darn thing to play X-COM. Can't WAIT!

too late! I bought a dell latitude CPi off ebay for 11$. It just needs a new keyboard. Also the only hard drive i have for an old laptop is garbage. It spins down when not in use and operates very slowly.

i had a compaq desktop computer with windows 98 till games i was borrowing gave it viruses and crashed it after that my uncle put windows xp in it i sold the computer to him not to long ago because i have a laptop but i still have the windows 98 compaq quick restore disks that came with it when i got it

Any chance you can tell me where I can get that Disk? I recently purchased this Compaq 1230 and its great but cannot find a the CD-Rom Driver. Its a Toshiba XM-1702B. I am pretty sure its a Driver issue as I have used a Windows 98 boot disk with CD support and its said Help file was on located on D: which is the CD ROM location. I was able to get it to read file but is only time it has found it. It wont locate it in DOS or Windows. It shows drive in Bios. By the way using it for DOS games.
