File Explorer Crashing After Right Click On Desktop
Some users are facing a problem with their File Explorer. Apparently, their File Explorer crashes when they click on the right mouse click. This problem could be caused by a bad context menu handler.
Windows File Explorer is one of the most important elements of any Windows version as it helps users access different folders and files. Its right-click context menu offers several useful items that let you perform several useful operations. But at times, you may find that your Windows File Explorer crashes when you right-click to open its context menu or create a new folder. If you are facing this problem, here is what you need to do to troubleshoot the issue.
In case you didn’t know, a context menu handler is a shell extension handler whose job is to add comments to an existing context menu, like for example: cut, paste, print, etc.
Issues resolved in this tutorial:
windows explorer crashes when opening
windows explorer crashes on right click
windows explorer crashes when opening folder
windows explorer crashes when renaming files

Thank You, this really saved my frustration. Although I had already tried options 1 & 2 I did try them again but the 3rd option worked brilliantly. Now all I need is an answer as to why so many windows updates to windows 11 install and then on reboot give the message something didn't go to plan but don't worry we are rolling back your computer. This then turns into a cycle of downloads and installations as stated. the only answer so far is to Pause updates for a month.

Supplemental - I reset my PC completely (luckily it was a brand new system and all important stuff is secured on external devices or cloud) - that fixed it Also; I searched the web a bit more; the right-click Explorer Crash Issue can be caused by installed software that cascades into the right-click menu, like WinRAR or 7ZIP After the reset of my system, WinRAR was removed and BAMM - issue gone So maybe try that too before ragequitting (as I almost did)
