Longhorn Build 3718 (2:38) was my favorite GUI ever, with aero and 95 following. 95 is chosen because it started the 3 button interface - Minimize, Maximize/Restore, & Close. That is now used in 99% of computers, and certain devices.

Unpopular opinion, I think Windows 11's GUI looks incredibly good. It's a lovely mix of the simplicity of 8/10's "Metro" and Vista/7's "Aero" looks, easy on the eyes but just realistic and tangible enough.

Windows Vista and 7's GUI was a pleasure to the eyes, though 11 has some similarities and definitely looks better than 8 and 10, they should bring back the Aero Glass, I mean today's PCs and laptops are way much stronger than then in that time, it wouldn't be any issue to the hardware.

Windows 7, released in 2009 already established the Windows Aero GUI and most PCS sold by then already had certification to run Windows Aero. Windows 8, 10 and 11 are a HUGE downgrade compared to Vista and 7. Aero Glass is still the peak of Microsoft's UI design just because the translucent glass getting the point of what Windows as an OS is. Plus, it looks beautiful.

Then why isn't Windows 7 the final Microsoft OS? Only thing missing is security and a bit of performance. GUI including Control Panel, Start Menu and such were much superior back then. Longhorn was the failed version of Windows Vista that new saw the sun light. After multiple discussions, Microsoft decided to scrap-out almost everything that they have done on longhorn and rewrite Windows Vista again.

Windows 11, they're getting attractive, but not with the File Explorer, on last bug which made taskbar crashed, File Explorer returned to win10 style, showing combinations between win10 and win11, wonder on final release, user can switch ribbon back or even add ability to use old menu style.. expanding popup menu is a bit hurt, but overall it made things look simple
