I adore my Steam Deck. I was on and off about SteamOS. I love the convenience, but I also really enjoy having Windows access. I’ve been playing with different OS on Steam Deck to see what’s fitting, and it can get better than SteamOS if you’re willing to experiment. I think this idea of needing two handhelds is ridiculous. If that’s the case, why not go for a powerful handheld, and then a less powerful one with more battery? Try dual booting via Clover or any of the other options and I think your mind might change.

I will NEVER install windows on my deck. Steam OS is great, and is working perfectly. In fact I am glad to have dropped windows as my main gaming OS.

Same here. Windows on my steamdeck😂 no fking way. And for my pc, linux mint all the way. Windows as second boot, but almost never go there.

@@TA_Tech Depends on the game, but more and more titles are just allowing the SteamDeck to just work. You keep saying 'but anticheat' and fail to realize that many work fine on SteamOS.

@@TA_Tech there is one simple solution, not playing them. It's what I do, it works. IF for some reason I want to play, I do it on my laptop. It's not like the deck is that great for competitive games anyway.

I would be ok if they just added native controller support, windows plays more games and is more versatile. More steam app users are windows users but they have completely ignored it. I will vote with my dollars in the future and my next purchase will be a non-valve properly supported windows handheld. Sad really, with a little attention and support for windows would have been a steamdeck buyer for future models.

I have one with windows, and I don't use very much, all the troubles with windows, to launch, the need of a mouse and keyboard, the lack of a responsive virtual keyboard, or to use the windows one and the steam one, to play some games you would need to run steam with admin privileges. I think I'll go back with steam os, it's tricky and it may need more knowledge to use, but you won't lose the console like expirence.

Owning SD and ROG ally for nearly a year now made me appreciate Nintendo Switch more, having a powerful handheld is cool but sometimes the simplicity, battery and easy of use beat all

Simplicity makes so much difference. I now turn to my xbox with its portable screen more than my Deck or Rog Ally. Steam deck two will fix this I'm sure.

@@TA_Tech I find the deck nearly as simplistic as console or dedicated handheld but the rog is awful. I hate windows. It always has problems and things to download. I’m using my steam deck again and much happier for it but now I have a £600 paper weight.

Actually windows nice on deck(I use deck with dualboot), if you like play online games, plus you can connect it to big screen and use like pc

You can put windows on a sd card and boot from it, that way you can still have steam os installed and only use windows when you need it

Never install windows on an sd card it will destroy it as its constantly reading and writing what i did to dualboot steamos and windows is i got a 256gb m.2 since my steamdeck was 64gb and i installed windows and steamos on my main storage and just got two sd cards one for my windows games and one for steamos

Havent touched my steam deck in awhile, mostly use Rog Ally these days. Once in awhile would jump on Steam Deck because certain games played better at launch on Steam Deck. Sometimes use my steam deck when wanting better battery life, and playing emulators. Just kinda sucks with whole yuzu shutdown, and their 3ds emulator. Because I enjoyed playing my switch games on steam deck back then. Never went as far as putting windows on Deck, might at certain point. Rog Ally solves playing certain games that steam deck cant.

I agree. Rog Ally handles windows so much better. I'm surprised valve didn't try to integrate windows well or at all on the steam deck

I am literally using my steam deck windows everyday than my gaming PC, the no controller support, you just need to add them as non-steam game then bam, controller supported. if else... Literally skill issue

Windows 10 in 2022 and Windows 11 in 2023. Loved both. The problem is the period between turning on and gaming. This gap makes you looks elsewhere. I might give steam os a try again.

why on earth would you put Windows on a Steam Deck. Windows is a horrific handheld OS it's just not very good. Also emulators tend to run a bit better on Linux. I'm utterly mystified as to why people would deliberately lose the ease of use of a console OS on a handheld when they want to game. On a desktop Windows makes way more sense. I own both a deck and an Ally. The deck is used as a games console. The Ally is used as a spare desktop and portable Windows machine🤷.
