Windows Phone 8.1 best new features

I installed WP 8.1 on my 920 and I have to say I am impressed with the work Microsoft had done. Especially with Cortana, she is very accurate and fast.

If people who allready have Windows phones stick with it and the rest of the phone buying public open their minds a little and give this operating system the credit that it deserves Nokia/Microsoft will kick Apple back to where it belongs... in the gutter...lol.... i would love to see Nokia become world leaders once again,... just like they were in the old days... i have somewhat of a soft spot for Nokia having kind of grown up with their phones... they are a top notch company with quality to match :)

Paul Shaw I had a Nokia Lumia 620. It was awful. The app store was a joke, and the operating system was clunky, and really ugly. But the biggest problem was the apps. There was nothing. I have a OnePlus One now. I love Android, because I can actually download the official version of snapchat, and not deal with useless built in apps.

If you connect you phone to a windows 8.1 PC/tabet it downloads an app. You can then add any song you have as a ring tone. ANY audio file that it can use. How long will it play? IDK maybe only 40 seconds but you can put any audio file as a ringtone.

I love that it has a dedicated Podcast client. Now I wont have to use a third party app.. This is going to be great for me since 50 percent of what I do on my phone is listen to Podcasts.

the action center is the best. now screen rotation lock is finally useful because before you would have to go to settings and change it. cortana works better than i thought but the new glide texting thing sucks for me.

Do you know if you can save the Podcasts to the SD card? I just ordered the new Lumia 635 which has the ability to add an SD card up to 128GB. I listen to a lot of PodCast and I chose the 635 because of the SD card option so that I can store a lot of PodCasts on it instead of having to stream them.

I would like to know if you can reply and attach mutiple different files. My last Windows phone couldn't reply with pdf files if I can remember. Is there a file system now? Does youtube app finally work? Multitasking? Flash?

@poobank There are many KZbin and Flash video apps. Multitasking is improved. There is a great app for file manager called Cloudsix.

Data sense has been there. It's not new but it is update. Battery saver and storage sense were already there but only found in the settings. Now they are apps in the app list. They change looks and added features which I wish people would talk about more because the bring stuff ios and android don't have but anyway.

The podcast app does have basically any podcast you can search for. Windows phone has had it for awhile but now it is a separate app from the music/video app. Also, if you don't like that app you can always download a podcast app from the store.

LOL rotation lock was already there in windows phone. You just always had to go to settings to get it. You could have gotten an app to create a live tile for it though but now you don't have to.

@marydroid You can create playlists in WP 8.1, but the Music app stills sucks. There are going to be updates that will fix it, if you use WP8 and the music experience is important for you don't upgrade to WP8.1 the music app is worst than before. But it is going to be fixed by the time the non dev version hits all the phones.

this's swipe keyboard. when u type (we should call it from this moment as slide on a screen) it marks what you typed. lines connect letters and put them together into a word

I am currently on Virgin Mobile and I am tired of Sprints service and I want to go to straight talk and their ATT sim and I do not want to spend a whole lot on a phone. I am looking at the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Note 3. I love Android and the thought of switching scares me a little lol anyone here make the switch and stayed??

This is not the windows phone fault, it is because Google wont let the app for youtube on WP. Imagine if Microsoft would do the same for skype on Android. Google seems like a crying child for this restriction...

Almost all the features were in Android 2.2. Way to catch up Microsoft. Give us a way to use flat icons instead of live tiles. With some color variations. Wow I can put a wallpaper under my live tiles. Android had live wallpapers in Android 2.2. Allow us to use different themes instead of different colors.
