What you don't understand is that Windows 11 is already the end. With Windows 10 we managed to make it "somewhat" more privacy friendly but we all have to run on Linux. All of us. And we need to open up and get people together to make an open source program for Adobe-level video and photo editing. Doing that plus more compatibility in video games and drivers, Windows will DEFINITELY disappear!

@@Noodles.FreeUkraine There is this other thing that some are trying - that you currently can only do if you have a mini tower with a few pci slots free. It's called "GPU pass-though" Basically, a 2nd video card is installed and with a special software, that video card can be used only to power the VM OS - from within Linux. So, you can install all the games and CAD station software on that Windows VM that you want and if you walked into a space where someone has this setup, with the window of the VM completely expanded to full screen, you literally wouldn't be able to tell that what's really running is a VM OS - because of how snappy everything is - especially if your 2nd card is super high powered.

So they basically want to use OUR computers, OUR system resources, OUR disc space, OUR bandwidth and OUR electricity for free in order to spy on us even more, and sell that data to the highest bidder. Well, not me. I made up my mind a long time ago that when Windows 10 reached end of support I was going to keep one machine on windows 10 offline; and my other two W10 machines would be moving to Linux. I get the concern. Experience with windows telemetry put a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. It also definitely should have been an opt in feature. However, I've found myself in situations where i could describe something i wanted to see again months but not have enough to get back a result on search engines. I'm going through that right now in fact. If i could type in 'modern blue logo on a black background', this feature would be able to show me the website i was thinking of. I think there's reasonable utility in that. I am sure Microsoft has built in a minimum of safeguards robust enough to allay security concerns of their organisational clients. The files and processing are local to the device. The filtering is trash, but the screenshot repository is supposed to be encrypted. They handled this with no finesse, but i think it can be a legit useful feature to the right people.
@peteragile74885 ай бұрын
But you hit the point. It definitely should've been an opt-in feature. But why isn't it then? IMHO if you create a feature in your programm, where people can see benefits of comfortable use in it, then you should let speak the feature and the pros / cons for itself and the user, if he/she likes it, should just click on a button and enable it for him-/herself... If you kinda need to rush a feature onto the people, then it shows me, which priority MS has... Collecting User Data. And I do not trust MS. I don't trust them, that the snapshots will be only stored locally and encrypted. If you use an Microsoft account on your PC (which I don't use, i use the good old local user account), then I will be sure, that they will link these snapshots to and store them on your MS account and they would potentially let them a backdoor open to analyse the snapshots for data. I mistrust them that much, because I know MS their shady practises for at least 20 years.

Though I understand the raised eyebrows, if it is a feature that is promoted as only being on the system without any interaction with any MS server, then I do think you should prove that it does have such interaction before calling it a privacy issue. Legality goes both ways, if MS says it is only on the system and it is not, lawsuits are a thing. And yes, of course it should not be on by default if it does send data to MS, but then again, almost every "tech" company has opt in data sending per default. Doesn't excuse it, but this situation also doesn't really excuse anybody being ignorant about it.
