Another XP 32/64 you seem to have the mindset for it. Many people have to use XP because off the trades were in that use rare or major Legacy Software, and being able to run that 25 year old software really fly’s on new computer hardware. My software was close to $200,000 when released. And to this day can’t be beat. So a problem to crack……

Workarounds to install Windows XP on modern hardware is a very neat trick to have a super fast Windows XP experience in 2023 and beyond.

A valiant effort sir. I’m actually surprised that you got as far as you did. You might want to try investigating Windows Server 2003 and Windows Embedded drivers, because they were supported for a lot longer and WinXP x64 was built from the Server 2003 kernel, because the x64 architecture obviously hit the server market before it reached mainstream adoption. You also might have better luck with desktop hardware, because there is still a bunch of XP based systems used in manufacturing, and there’s a chance that a newer chipset might’ve gotten support for an older OS because a ton of machines that cost $250K to $1M were using WinXP and they might’ve needed replacement parts that were compatible.

Snappy driver is the best for fixing driver issues i fixed my windows 7 downgrade with them but i had the 40gb version

You got really far. I am curious why you chose to use Windows XP x64 though - almost nobody used it, unlike modern 64-bit windows it didn't have any ability to run 32-bit applications (so, almost all software at the time), and it had few drivers available and poor stability. If you try again with 32-bit XP you might get better results

XP64 could run 32-bit programs. There was even a special Program Files (x86) folder added to put them in. You did need separate Runtime Libraries installed for 32-bit programs. However, ALL support for 16-bit was removed, and no MS-DOS programs could run. Looks like it can't play DOOM.🤣

@@aleksandrbmelnikov Interesting, I will have to try that then. I had somehow remembered that it didn't work at all with 32-bit applications and that's why it never caught on, and there were even computers shipped with x86-64 processors and XP 32-bit for that reason

@@DevynCairns You're right, nobody wanted 64-bit. I have an XP VLK still sealed in my desk. Problem people had was finding drivers. You can't install 32-bit drivers on it. Then people also had programs that worked in driver mode (Virtual CD, PoE internet). None of it ran on 64-bit.

@@DevynCairns Oh, but to your real question. Sorry, i forgot. Oops. XP-32 has a memory limit of 4gb. Depending on motherboard's memory controller, if you install more than 4gb RAM, you risk yet another Blue Screen of Death.

its a shame these old OS are such a hassle, even win 7 is difficult to install. i would love to use it if possible, go back to simpler times

The biggest shame is modern conputers don't even include simple things the CD ports to insert which is embarrassing considering its "modern"

- Rufus will make XP boot from USB. Just sayin'. - BIOS has to be in Legacy mode. If yours has it. - SATA has to be in IDE mode. It can do AHCI with some tweaking, but not really worth the effort, just stick with IDE. - XP natively supports up to 4th generation CPUs (i7-4960X being the latest). Anything later is hit and miss. If you'll remember, 4th-gen LGA2011 boards were the last to include things such as PCI slots, SATA-2 ports, and similar aging stuff. After experimenting with "modern" hardware, I decided to stick within a given OS's native support range. As mentioned, XP on an i7-4960X, then Win98 on a P4-3.8GHz 2M 775 board, Win7 on 9th-gen hardware (tested on i9-9920X) and similar constraints. Turns out it wasn't really worth the effort to force-feed an OS onto hardware it doesn't support. If you have drivers for things, great, but if not....Like sex, it's too much work, WAY too high a risk, and with very little payoff.

Windows XP doesn’t have built-in support for newer hardware so you’ll be left with an unbootable Windows installation or with non functional or missing drivers.

AMD64 is only in Windows XP x64. If you only have an i386 folder, you have XP x86/32-bit. If you have an IA64 folder, then you have XP 64-bit (Itanium, not x64)

Not as difficult to get WinXP running on a 2009 Core 2 Duo HP (only need modded sata drivers and everything else including pnp works) , it's only a nightmare for the new UEFI devices

Made an XP vm inside my W11pro Hyper-V. Can't get sound to work, and can't install Plus! for XP cause I "don't have hardware compatible with 16 bit video" (I have a RTX 3060). Any advice?

Try VMWare Workstation, VMWare Player, or VirtualBox. Hyper-V can cause odd issues, because Hyper-V is a Type-1 Hypervisor (Runs on bare metal), while VMWare and VBox are Type-2 (Runs inside a host OS). Yes, Hyper-V treats your host OS as a VM! Other type-1 hypervisors include Oracle VM (non-VirtualBox edition), QEMU KVM, and VMWare ESXi. There are also software virtualization tools, like QEMU (Non-KVM), PCEM, DOSBOX, Virtualbox (if Virtualization is disabled in BIOS), or VMWare (if Virtualization is disabled in BIOS).
