1.(the MAIN) The machines are different! 2. Both of the machines were not shut down correctly. 3. Both of them had some sort of system problems(they were checking their hard disks) 4. Boot is considered finished when the desktop and all of the icons appear(not the user menu)

Those are 2 completely different laptops running different editions of Windows (Left has XP Professional, right has Home Premium). This test would be reliable if you had 2 identical laptops, one with Windows XP Professional, and one with Windows Vista Professional, started up at the same time (I heard of a thing you can do when you can have the PC started up on a timer, down to the millisecond), and don't dual-boot anything. Make it go straight to desktop.

To be fair, when you test between 2 laptops with different operating systems and their types, it doesn’t always mean the test is considered inconsistent. I’m saying this because what if you want to test 2 different laptops that can only load different operating systems depending on basically their supported operating systems.
