I was hoping that happened but with XP. XP was just... bliss, y'know? Windows 7 is definitely the greatest I'd say, but XP was just special. Also what I dearly miss about both old OSs is that their Search functions so much better than modern Windows... I am on Win11 right now, but I have purchased StartAllBack, installed Shell by Nilesoft and it's a bit disjointed but a bit more pleasant experience since I can customise things without them being _too_ disjointed like reverting the context menus to Win10 which just doesn't fit well with Win11's aesthetics. Also, actually my point here was that I set the start menu to like Windows 10 and stuff and the search is miles better. I just hate that they introduced internet to mostly everything, I hate the accounts, I hate the ads, the bloatware, like half of the problems of modern Windows is just these. I do quick edits outside of plain trimming (which can be done in Photos, which doesnt accept opus codec in videos which explains them being silent) in fricking Windows Movie Maker. Clipchamp used to not bother me so much but they then decided to do the stupid accounts thing like its another platform, and they also dont let you export with custom resolutions and settings. I miss XP so much man but everytime I get that hit, I realise a lot of stuff dont work with XP anymore, like I downloaded an archive version of Encarta Kids so I could show it off to my siblings and maybe give them member berries if they even were conscious beings when i was able to use it and find it on school computers. i think the easier question would be, what can you not do... i think it boils down to a handful of online games that mandate specific anti-cheat methods (core isolation, tpm, secure boot etc.) or those that exclusively want a fully fledged directx 12 implementation. and then you have some huge application suites like from adobe who just artificially put a stop to launching their software in windows 7, simply because they do not "want to support" it anymore. yet, adobe creative cloud versions 2020/2021 still work on windows 7. and these have a very very rich feature set already. so if you want to avoid using win10 or even win11 then there is not much you have to leave behind.

Literally everything I wanted to use was still working on WIndows 7 up until last year. Didn't have to do any weird workarounds. I really only switched to Windows 11 because steam stopped working. If you played super modern games, Windows 7 probably stopped working way earlier, but I mostly play games that are 5 to 10 years old so for me everything worked flawlessly. If Windows 7 was still supported by steam I would have no issues using it today. (And no, viruses were never an issue for me, if you are smart on the internet you have nothing to worry about even when using an old unsupported version. It's mostly just fear mongering that makes people think old unsupported versions will somehow self destruct as soon as you go to one sketchy website) I see Windows 7 like I do a classic car. If it still works for all your use cases, then it's perfectly fine and anyone trying to tell you that you are wrong for using it because "it's not modern" can screw off. Even after being on Windows 11, it literally doesn't do anything I couldn't already do in 7. The times of OS upgrades being actually meaningful are behind us, unless you use niche modern features. If a classic OS works fine for all your use cases and you protect yourself from any viruses, you have nothing to worry about and you aren't "wrong" for using it. Different tools for different people. A modern OS isn't objectively better than Windows 7. If anything, all the stupid crap they cram in now a days probably means you are better off using an older OS if you can manage.

7 is unironically more secure than 10 and up. Not only because it does not have such gaping backdoors and integrated spyware MS itself implemented, but because the pro-criminals don't give a crap about it no more. It's also arguably the last MS operating system that's 100% "offline" desktop OS.

The reasons you are having problems with the displaying of windows in Windows 7 in your VM. Is because you did not turn on 3D Acceleration. To do this goto the Virtual Machine Settings for the VM. Then select Display in the left menu. And then on the right side place a checkmark in the box for Accelerate 3D graphics. Once you do that you can then use Areo Effects, and you won't have any more problems when dragging windows around. And quite possibly most of the games/applications will work fine.

Hey guys, about the brave browser, there is a version which you could find that supports windows 7, it's actually better to install the 32 bit version to make sure it's supported as 64bit machines can run both 32 & 64 bit programs.
@jedclampett42158 ай бұрын
I use Windows 7 64-bit with Office 2010 pro plus, VLC player and a bunch of other proggies I like that won't work on Window 10. It's my daily driver. Works fine. I have Windows 10 and Windows 11 machines, but, I use Windows 7 (and Macbook Pro) the most. I don't leave my computers on overnight, so, whenever I need to use the Win 10 or Win 11 machine(s), I have to wait until all the updates are installed. What a freakin' pain that is! I hadn't used my Win10 machine in about 2 months, so, it took over 40 minutes to install all the updates so I could use it. Jeez...

@@chuckintexas I agree, I’d rather use MS Office, too. I actually prefer Office 2010 over 2021 and 365. I don’t need all the extra garbage, whistles & bells and group collaboration stuff. And, one of my complaints about MS is that every time they come out with a new version of Office, ya have a learning curve and level of frustration trying to learn how to use it. If they want to add new features (that most home users will never use), fine, just quit changing the general look & feel of the program and how to do certain tasks. I really don’t care for the bland, but busy, look of Office 2021 and 365, or Windows 11 for that matter. I’ll keep using Win7 & Office 2010 as long as I can…

I'm still using Windows 7 and 8 on some of my laptops and desktop computers mainly because they can't be upgraded or I simply just prefer not to upgrade them. In fact one of my laptops is even triple booted with Windows 7, XP and Ubuntu (Linux). However I am in the process of trying to upgrade one of laptops of mine that is still running Windows 8 (specifically the original version, not 8.1) to Windows 10 by doing a clean install and then manually installing drivers after Windows 10 installation finishes. Anyway... I wanted to say, I am one of the people who still use VLC as an alternative to Windows Media Player. Mainly because it's something I have always used as an alternative and not only that, from my experience it's often more reliable compared to Microsoft's Windows Media Player (or Windows Media Player Legacy as it's now called in Windows 11).

You can turn aero on if you install VMware Tools 11.0.6 or older. Newer versions of VMware tools do not support aero. I usually put the 32 and 64 bit versions in a ISO file. With Tools 11.0.6 you also get 3D acceleration and DX11 support. Same story for Vista too. I have an iso with most things i use for VMware

New Win versions are only created to make a new product for the software company! When 7 was new, it was touted as being the best operating system ever created, and a few years later they don't support it and new programs won't run on it. You will find that there are often just a line or two of code to prevent the program running on win 7, online nerds will tell you how to work around this sabotage!

@darkprinc9797 ай бұрын
@@konnorj6442 If that's true then it's probably less laziness and more an intentional effort to push people onto new operating systems. There is a fair bit of disdain out there for people that want to stick to an older os for any reason, because you are basically seen as hindering progress. As an example, not too long ago I was looking through the forum posts for the latest release of a piece of software and some random user just threw out there that Windows 7 support should be removed. They didn't even specify a reason why, just threw it out there to poke at people still using Windows 7.

Even XP had builtin spyware lol just saying. By the way x86-64 as a software package means 64bit (meaning the version of LibreOffice you've installed is the 64bit one), x64 is just an abbreviation of x86-64. x86 alone as a software package means 32bit. x86 as an instruction set includes 64bit extensions since AMD put those in their Athlon 64 CPU.

The Mach 3 control program loves Windows 7 and is prone to hiccups in newer operating systems. The parallel port has enough one-bit lines to drive stepper motors on three axes with feedback from limit switches. etc.

even with only official supported parts, you can still spec Windows 7 with an i9-9980XE, an RTX 3090 Ti, and 128GB of DDR4-4266mhz RAM, limited by the X299 chipset. You could go even higher with unsupported parts, for example the i9-14900KS and R9 7950X3D both work fine on Windows 7. Only issue is that nobody has made drivers for the RTX 40 series for Windows 7.
